The Prince Gallery is a modern, high-end luxury hotel located on the top six floors (30-36) of a new development in Kioicho, Tokyo. The property is brand new, having only been opened for a few months. Throughout the hotel, the best phrase to describe the feel is “modern luxury” - you’ll find the interiors covered in white marble and brushed steel.

Walking out of the main elevators on the reception floor, you’re overlooking the impressive lobby bar. The bar is against the window, overlooking the Tokyo skyline (the focal point being the Tokyo Tower), and is framed on both sides by 30ft walls covered in wavy green neon lights. More on this later; because it deserves its own section.

Check In

Check-in was fairly typical. The staff met me downstairs, guided me to the reception, helped with luggage, showed me to my room, and showed me the room features.

As a Platinum guest, you'd typically be invited to check-in at the Club Lounge on the 34th floor, but due to a slight mistake by my travel agent, my SPG number was not on the reservation and I checked in at the reception.

Due to the SPG number snafu and the fact that the property was entirely sold out, I was not able to get an upgrade and instead was given the originally booked room (Deluxe). But, on the second day, I asked again if there was any availability for an upgrade and was given a Grand Deluxe Premier room, which is the highest non-suite room category.

Room

Initially I was given a Deluxe room. At 40m^2 it’s comfortable without being large. It’s appointed with all the usual things you’d expect from a high-end luxury hotel. The bathroom is separated on from the room by a glass box. The trick is that there’s a control panel inside that will electrically turn the clear glass into frosted glass if you’d like additional privacy. It’s a brilliant design which definitely adds a “wow” factor, and ties in to the modern theme of the hotel.

On day two of my stay, I was upgraded to the highest room category (other than suites), the 62m^2 Grand Deluxe Premier room. The room is quite a bit larger, with an entry-way right behind the massive king bed. The bathroom is large and separated by opaque white glass double-doors. The shower / bathtub room has its own floor-to-ceiling full-width windows, so you can shower while gazing at the mesmerizing Tokyo Skyline (Skytree / Imperial Palace view).

Club Lounge

This club lounge might be my favorite hotel club lounge I’ve visited. It’s open 7am to 10pm (though in practice they’ve let me stay almost until 11pm). They serve breakfast from 7am to 10am, afternoon tea style sweet snacks from 11am-ish to 5pm, and salty hors d’oeuvres from 5pm to 9pm.

The lounge has cocktail happy hour from 5pm to close with a full liquor bar (including Yamazaki whiskey); and they serve champagne, sake, and beer all day (yes, you can even have it at breakfast!!).

The breakfast include a small buffet and made-to-order egg dishes. The standout is the Chef’s Egg, which consists of a black truffle scramble, topped with a poached egg and prosciutto. It’s incredible!

Bars

The hotel has two bars, Levita and Illumiid. The former is the hip lobby bar framed in neon-green lights, while the latter is hidden behind the staircase down to Levita and is a cosy Japanese whiskey bar. Both have a similar menu of speciality cocktails and serve food.

The standout is their signature cocktail, the Fuzei, which is a matcha-infused sake frozen cocktail topped with gold leaf. It’s to be consumed with a Japanese spoon. While pricy at JPY2200, it’s the single best cocktail I’ve ever had in a hotel bar. I ended up ordering it over and over throughout my stay.

Location

The location is very central to Tokyo and you could get to all the major neighborhoods in a 10-15min cab ride. It’s also located right atop a subway station with 5 lines, so you could get anywhere with public transportation extremely easily. The entrance to the subway station is inside of the same building as the hotel.

Spa

The spa features an indoor common pool and hot tub, and gender-segregated facilities with sauna and hot (42C) & cold (20C) tubs.

Overall

One more thing that deserves to be mentioned is the stunning views in every direction. Tokyo is a stunning mega-city, and whether you're looking towards Shinjuku, the Tokyo Tower, or the Skytree + Imperial Palace… you'll be mesmerized.

This may have become my favorite property in the SPG portfolio, and my favorite property in Tokyo (tied, perhaps, with the nearby Andaz).
