Check In

We bookes via a FHR-agent and it was uncomplicated as usual. At check-in our room wasn´t ready but we was told we got an upgrade from One-bedroom suite to a deluxe suite. During the time we waited we drove a little bit around and visited Santa Barbara. The door-man gave us some good advice, they were very friendly.

The Hotel

The hotel is a historical building in Spanish style. You must know, that it is not small and there are quite a few people around. Officially it´s a holiday resort but it wouldn´t be my choice for a longer trip. My impression was, that many families do holidays here.

Room

The room was very big and even had a partial ocean view which isn't standard in this hotel. The furniture matched the Spanish mission style and provided us with everything we needed. In the living room we found a dining table and seating area,so everything you expect from a proper suite.  Especially lovely was the fireplace which was quite big. As a welcome present we got chocolates and macarons. We had a nice balcony with lounge chairs to enjoy the sunshine. You don´t really have a view from it, but it´s not a big issue. The floor was long and had a powdr room.

The bedroom was quite sacious and the bed had the usual Four Seasons standard with good linens. Adjected to the bedroom was a small luggage room with safe. It wasn´t big enough for our luggage, but that´s often the case.

The bathroom was not too big but provided 2 sinks, bathtub and shower. A special feature of the bathroom was the shower/steamroom. It created a lot of steam and heat if you wanted. The style was some kind of Spanish, I would say it fitted perfectly with Santa Barbara.

Service

The level of service was high, I would said a well run hotel. I can´t say anything negative about it!

Beach

The beach is quite nice but not private. You can walk on the promenade or at the water. In June it was still too cold to swim so no one was at the water. On the ocean you can see some industrial facilities in the back.

Pool

The hotel has two pool areas - one is situated in the garden and the other is in the beach club overlooking the beach which is separated from the hotel by a road.

The pool in the garden has 2 hot-tub areas (at many hotels a pool itself) and a pool. It´s very popular by families. You get pool service and of course you can order drinks.

The beach club is located at the beach and a typical old-fashioned club. The pool is a classic swimming-pool and not really the right place for chilling. It´s for swimming....

I prefer the garden-pool!

Dining

The Italian restaurant Bella Vista surprised us positively. We sat outsideon their terrace which provides an ocean view. The menu wasn't too innovative but the food quality was good and the service attentive. Especially the truffle fries knocked my socks off.

So a recommondation without question.

The breakfast was served at Bella Vista as a buffet. The choices were quite good as was the quality. Not the best breakfast of all times but solid.

Location

The Biltmore is directly located at the beach, so you could say it´s perfect. If you wonna visit Santa Barbara, one of the most beautiful towns in the U.S., you must be aware that it´s quite a while to the centre. You need a taxi or car to reach it. I stayed at the Canary (Kimpton today) a few years ago which is located quite in the middle of Santa Barbara. Of course it´s more conveniant, but of course the beach-location is also a strong factor.

Overall

Overall a beautiful hotel where we would definitely stay again if we found ourselves in Santa Barbara. A small disadvantage is certainly that you have to drive into the old town, but the beach location is really lovely.
