- Stats
we returned to Cape Fahn that we discovered last year on Koh Samui.
It's a private island hotel located just 50 metres off shore and is owned by a Thai Princess. It is immactualtely maintained, only has 22 pool villas so no more than 48 guests and a Michelin starred restraurant.
As it was Lunar New Year the hotel was full, but we never saw more than a few other couples, even with several wedddings occuring.
We were whisked from the airport to their Beach Reception Area where their special Beach Trucks took us over the water. It's a very special arrival.
SLH joined and just left, but that meant for 25,000/nights I could get a $1,200++ Villa. This was the joy of SLH of finding the special properties. We paid partly in points and partly in cash. HHonors people take note.
With just 22 villas, you never see more than 48 guests. We stayed for 7 nights, most only stay for 2 or 3 and they had 3 weddings during that time. Despite this, we never saw more than a few couples at breakfast or dinner.
Getting on and off the island isn't as easy as just walking out so more recommended if you want to stay put and enjoy the villa and pools. General rates including breakfast, airport transfers, massages, afternoon teas and more.
Room
This time we had the second best Deluxe Ocean View Villa as opposed to the Horizon View Villa. Other than the aspect, all villas are the same 350sqm with separate living/dining, bedroom and pools that run the length of the villa. There is also a massive bathroom and outdoor shower. There is such an abundance of light that it feels incredibly large and surrounded by nature.
We moved on the last day for a late checkout to Villa 11, I think a Bayview, and it actually had more natural light because of its aspect and got all day sun.
Service
Cape Fahn is a true gem. Owned by a Thai Princess, it is meticulously maintaed and the service is impeccable. You can chat via the app and whatever you request is delivered in moments.
We wanted some specific After Sun gel and the staff went and bought it from the main island.
The staff remember your coffee, breakfast and cocktail orders. The hotel is very eco conscious in every possible way and they make a big commitment to not serving certain delicacies out of respect for animal rights.
On our last day there were severe winds and USM closed. PG is the only carrier to serve the airport as they own it. Flights were delayed 5-7 hours and we ended up not departing the property until 8PM. While our villa had an arrival, the hotel arranged another villa for us to use that night - a mark of true luxury or always meeting a guests's needs.
Dining
The hotel restaurant Long D'Tai has a Michelin Star and makes all of the food for the property so the Asian, Western and other dishes were all spectacular.
The Happy Hour runs 5:30PM - 7:30PM and we found the Cocktails at Long D'Tai much better than at Hue.
We ate on property for every meal.
Overall
Overall, will definitely return, but perhaps just 5 nights before switching hotels. It remains one of our favourite hotels, especially for the privacy and lack of guests. It's a shock returning to a hotel with hundreds of rooms afterwards.
