Thanks to tris06’s excellent review, my review will not double up on some of the things mentioned.

Location

There are four Accor hotels within the Renmin Square complex: Mercure, Grand Mercure, Sofitel and Sofitel Legend. The hotels are well located for access to the central train station, the Muslim quarter and the city wall. The nearest metro station is a one block walk.

Check In

Both the front desk agents spoke very good English. A ‘check in welcome drink’ was offered and we were informed of our room upgrade. Drink vouchers were mentioned, but we never received them. As the room included one free mini bar and happy hour in the evening, we opted not to bother asking for the vouchers.

Room

We received a one category upgrade from a Premium Room to a Grand Premium Room, which faced towards the rear of the hotel, towards the Grand Mercure hotel behind it. The rooms include 24hr butler service and almost all of the butlers spoke good English. All rooms include breakfast and the evening happy hour service and one free ‘complete’ mini bar. Like the Grand Mercure, the Legend’s rooms are wider than they are deep.

The rooms are wonderfully appointed. My partner and I were celebrating our anniversary and we received a lovely welcome gift.

Each side of the bed features easy-to-access power points for charging devices.  Some tea, small sweets and biscuits were provided with turn down service.

The closet is well stocked and even the slippers are of good quality! There was a suit bag provided in the closet, which the hotel was kind to let me take away without any charge, as the suit bag I was travelling with was in poor condition.

The living area has a sofa, chair and working desk with chair. The TV is located between the bed and living area and does not feature a swivel base, meaning it is inconvenient to watch TV from either the bed or living room, as you need to carefully lift up and orient the TV for viewing.

The room has two bathrooms. The smaller guest bathroom, with a toilet and sink, is located near the entranceway.

The main bathroom, accessible from both the bedroom and the hallway/closet, has a standalone shower and a four-claw bath tub. Lanvin amenities are provided – I was expecting a Legend would provide Hermes. Some work is required on the seal of the shower door, as a large amount of water leaked onto the bathroom floor.

Dining

Breakfast is included in each room rate, reducing the value for platinum members. Breakfast service features a few benches of buffet with a large selection of a-la-carte options for ordering. All of the a-la-carte dishes we ordered were very tasty. Toward the end of service, there was a few items on the buffet that were not replenished, which was a little disappointing.

Happy Hour is also included in each room rate. Platinum members do also have the option of enjoying the happy hour at the Sofitel hotel opposite the Legend. As we planned to dine in the hotel’s restaurant that evening, we only ate at the Legend’s happy hour. The food was wonderfully presented, but absent of any hot food options, so you could likely not fill up sufficiently as a dinner. Drinks are ordered at the table and includes a range of wines, cocktails and mocktails.

We dined in the restaurant for dinner, which serves Italian cuisine. Service provided by the staff was very good. My partner ordered the seafood spaghetti, which was very good. I ordered the potato gnocchi with blue cheese sauce. The gnocchi was drowned in the sauce, which meant the blue cheese was too overpowering. The cocktail was very good and the staff member suggested a French burgundy to go with my blue cheese sauce with a side of gnocchi, which was good.

Check Out

A late 2pm check out was granted without hesitation. We likely would have been granted a later check out, but 2pm was what we required.

Check out was quick.

Overall

Compared to the other Accor options within the Renmin Square area, this hotel is significantly more expensive, but the standard of service and accommodation is leagues ahead of what we experienced at the Grand Mercure. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel would wholeheartedly recommend it.
