After hearing so much about the SkyLofts on our recent (and first trip) to Las Vegas we decided to spend our last night at the SkyLofts. Without a doubt this is a serious 5 star, 5 diamond luxury property rivalling the very best service that Peninsula, Four Seasons, etc can offer. Of course, SkyLofts are a very special, very small, and niche property our stay was virtually flawless.

We booked the 1 BR SkyLofts through Virtuoso which included 15% of BAR, an upgrade if available (in our case it was not), daily breakfast credit of $50 per Loft (essentially 2 continental breakfasts), and a $100 F&B credit once per stay.

The hotel also noted my Leader's Club number and the SkyLofts CD (available at $18.50 for purchase) was given to me as a welcome gift.

Included in the rate are return limousine transfers to and from the airport or other destinations within Las Vegas in a MGM stretch limo or the Maybach 62 which we were fortunate to have both times. Non-alcoholic beverages are also complimentary and replenished several times a day but the Butlers, internet access, as well as any digital movies and radio channels.

All in all, it is a fantastic value.

Room

The 1 BR Loft is about 1400 sq ft and are mainly located closest to the intersection of the 4 wings of the building meet (where the Concierge/Reception desk is). 2 BRs (3000sq ft) are located further down each wing and the 3 BR (6000 sq ft) occupy prime end of hallway locations.

As you enter the double doors there is a entry foyer with a powder room off to one side. In front of you are the stairs leading to the second level, and in our case, to the left was the sunken living room and dining area.

The downstairs portion of the loft is the living area with sofa, 2 chairs, powder room, wetbar and dining area with seating for 6. There are 2 tv's, one a Sony Flat panel (26" I think in a low armoire in the dining area) and the main Bang & Olufsen screen in the living area. A Crestron unit controls climate, drapes, lighting, tv, radio, cd, dvd players for the downstairs. Wall panels strategically located do the same thing. Lighting has pre-sets for day, night, evening, mood, and any permutation in between.

The CD player is Bang & Olufsen with matching speakers. There are tons of radio pre-sets for various genres of music.

The upstairs has a separate Crestron system and is independent from the downstairs so the climate, music and lighting can be different from upstairs and downstairs.

In the dining room is the mini-bar where several bottles of water and soft drinks, as well as wine and beer, are stored. The Pre-arrival Concierge will customise the bar for you. The standard "house" water is Voss and the softdrinks and water are replenished several times during the day by the Butler. There is a coffee machine which grinds the beans and makes an excellent cup of coffee -- this is also complimentary. We enjoyed the Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee immensely.

Under the stairs is the office area with a colour printer and free wireless, or wired, internet. My laptop crapped out on me but the Butler was happy to loan me a Sony Vaio for the duration of our stay.

At the top of the stairs is the bedroom and master bath. The bedroom is a comfortable size with glass panels as a protective barrier to overlook the downstairs. The TV is Sony Flat panel mounted to the wall. The bed is king sized and the room is furnished with a chaise longue.

The Master bath is remarkable with the Infinity Edge bath with "champagne bubbles" and chromatherapy. The shower is huge with body jets and rainfall shower head. There is also a wand shower and a wooden bench as this shower is equipped to become a steam shower.

There are dual vanities, a tv in the mirror as well as at the foot of the bath, separate WC, and a large walk in closet. The bathroom has an independent sound system as well.

All of the furnishings were of very high quality and the loft is maintained very well. No visible wear and tear were visible except for some scuffing on the wooden floors at the top of the stairs at the landing heading into the bedroom.

It is evident a lot of planning, time, and money were expended to make this an incredible product. This hotel completely exceeded my expectations!!

Service

While the hard product is fantastic what took this stay to the next level was the service.

The hotel sent us the Maybach to pick us up from the Four Seasons Las Vegas (report forthcoming). Upon arriving at the MGM Grand, a SkyLofts Concierge met us and escorted us through the hotel (showing us the VIP Check-in area) and up the private elevators for SkyLofts where our Butler was waiting outside the door of the Loft. In-room registration was quick, the Butler served us a welcome drink, and then gave us a tour of the Loft.

In the SkyLofts reception area there are a team of Concierge who are the first point of contact for any requests. The Concierge relay the requests to the Butlers who then take care of the requests. They are proactive and are very genuine and friendly people who really want to serve their guests. There are enough Butlers on duty that one never waits long for service.

One advantage of the SkyLofts is that one can order from any of the MGM Grand restaurants and enjoy the food in your Loft. Our Butler co-ordinated a dinner from Shibuya (excellent cuisine -- put Nobu to shame), CraftSteak, and Fiamma, delivered it to the room and then set our table and ensured everything was just perfect.

If you choose to dine in the restaurant, SkyLoft guests get preferential seating and slightly more attentive service. SkyLofts guests are also able to get preferential seating at various shows.

Overall

I was blown away by this property -- I thought it would be fun but never did I think it would be this good. The SkyLofts blew the Four Seasons Las Vegas out of the water with warm, friendly, and genuine service which ranks amongst the best I have experienced. It comes VERY close to what I experience at the George V in Paris, only that the SkyLofts has 50 Lofts, the George V has 250 rooms and suites.

It is not often I rant and rave about a hotel but this is one I feel, as a result of this stay, is an exceptional property. I would highly recommend a stay here.
