I had a reserved stay at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani with my girlfriend from Sept. 5 - Sept. 10. We arrive at the PK on the 5th. I had contacted the hotel prior to our arrival and got a room upgrade to high ocean view. Got all checked in and everything seemed good. Hotel did not seem as bad as some reviewers might make it out to be.

We headed straight for the pool but learned that the pool was closed. I asked the attendant why and was told someone threw up in the pool the evening prior. Well, we made our way to the Moana Surf Rider to lay out for an hour. Upon coming back from a great sunset we arrived at our room to see we had no electricity. After several calls to the front desk, they moved our room.

We unpacked and the next morning headed down to the pool. Again, still closed for "organic contamination." We made our way over to the Moana Surf Rider to lay out. Showed the pool attendants at the MSF our room keys and were given towels but were told we could not use the chairs. I explained about the PK pool, but were still turned away. We made our way to the public beach area to lay out. Clouds rolled in and we headed to a Starwood Vacation club thing for a $100. After that it cleared again and we were close to the Royal Hawaiian. We were turned away from getting towels there, but after some arguing they gave them to us. We made our way to their beach but were kicked out.

After being extremely angered by this, we made our way to back to the PK to speak with the guest services manager. He listened and then offered us a free breakfast certificate. Even went as far as to tell us to just use public beaches until the pool reopened. I told him this did not fix the situation and asked if their other hotels had availability. He went to the back and came out to tell us non of the other Waikiki Starwood hotels had availability and left us with the breakfast vouchers.

Still angered, I called SPG reservations to check Waikiki availability. I quickly learned that the MSF had availability. Plenty of it. Proceeded to call the Guest Services Manager who by then left for the day and I proceeded downstairs again to meet with the new guest services manager. Unleashed on him and pretty much told him to move us out of there or we were going to check out ourselves. Came back twenty minutes later letting us know we were being moved to the MSF.

Got to the MSF and the manager there gave us a deluxe ocean front room. Amazing!!! We could not have been happier. The MSF made for a fantastic vacation.

Even though the PK had problems, I think it is an alright hotel for the money. But for a $100 more you can have the beauty and tranquility of the MSF which I feel is well worth it. All in all, got the SPG355N promo at a rate of $149 a night at the MSF. Not too shabby.
