Stayed at the Royal Palace hotel in Wuhan in September '19 for two nights. Its a good quality hotel with comfortable rooms that are definitely up to the standards of the likes of Hilton, Marriot etc. Prices were very good for the standard.

I arrived in Wuhan by high speed line from Shanghai, it takes about around 3-4hrs (it's difficult to book from abroad but possible through a couple of online services) , I took a cab a cab from the station (its was a 15min wait in the line), remember to take the address printed in Chinese (the driver struggled to read mine, then put on his glasses and still struggled (interesting 10min journey!)). Journey to the airport on the way back is about 45-50mins by cab, but understand you can take the metro (directly outside the hotel, but requires some changes).

Check in was pretty simple there was a westerner working behind the desk (Spanish I think) who spoke fluent English, which made things much easier, as language is often an issue in China.

My 'Business Room' was up on the 23rd floor, overlooking a small square with similarly tall buildings surround it. Twin room with comfortable beds, and decent bathroom (with a walk in shower rather than a bath), a proper seat/ desk and a padded window sill you could sit on. Picture below is stock, but identical to my own room.

Breakfast was not included in my room rate, but only about $10, with a really wide range of food, Chinese, Japanese Korean, Western (though the bacon had a strong chinese flavour due to the oil!), range of fruits etc. Also had a chef on hand, who also did eggs, pancakes and a range of oriental breakfast items.

The bar at the hotel was off the reception, limited selection (Most Chinese hotels don't seem to be big on bars).

The hotel was opposite a metro station (Sanyang Station) which provides good, cheap connections round the city. There are a few restaurants in easy reach of the hotel, we visited a trendy bar, 'Hutaok' oppositite the hotel (cross the road under the metro line and turn right about 100m?). Which had a young clinetel and live music. We also took a walk down to the Yangze along Sanyang road, where there is a park along the bank, we ate as some small restaurant at the end of the road (on the right), which was cooking crayfish in big pans outside. Had a great range of 'seafood', mostly crustaceans.

When in Wuhan, there are a few things worth going to (maybe not the wet markets!). The Yellow Crane tower (and surrounding park), the Hubei museum, and several temples (we visited the Baotong temple, with its rickety tower). Also make sure you head out at night down to the Yangtze, seems that all the skysrapers there put on a light show early evening, which was pretty cool

Overall a good trip, not on most peopl with a number of things to see and do. The hotel is a good standard and if you are not looking to be in one of the major chains a very good option.
