My wife, 13 year old son and I stayed at the Novotel BlackFriars last week for 3 nights. We had specifically booked a 3-person room.  When we checked in we had to request a room change due to the small size of the room (we could not even walk past the bed without colliding into one another) The “sofa bed” to sleep the third person was ridiculously small. They put us in a slightly larger room, but same type of sofa bed. We complained and ask to speak with a manager. He explained to me that all the rooms are equipped with the same sofa bed type even for their suite (we learned later via housekeeping that the suites have 2 sofa beds and can be put together), therefore it was what it was and nothing was possible. The size of their “sofa bed’ was 31.5 inches wide and 6ft 2inches long.  The sofa bed is not really a sofa bed, it is a sleek sofa that has cushions removed and bars behind which keep the cushions on but do not get out of the way if you sleep on this sofa. I’m 6-foot-tall and could not sleep in the 31.5 wide “sofa bed”. Our solution was to sleep on the floor for 3 nights with mattress on floor ( still too small, but at least not falling and could stretch), To sell you a room for 3 (extra cost of course) and have the third person sleeping in a 31.5 x 6ft 2” type of chair bed sofa is not acceptable, it is at best misleading information and, at worst not telling the truth about who can sleep in this very small bed. My opinion is that no one should book a room like this if your child is over 8 . Already a pricey hotel for Novotel category (specially in the Accor group, booking was around $800 for 3 nights) , it would be positive to clearly display the bedding arrangements so families know what to expect. I remember staying in a Mercure hotel (Accor group) in Vichy not long ago and they refused us to book a room for 3 as they only had a single chair sofa in the room on top of their queen bed. I wished the same courtesy was offered to us by Novotel Black Friars as we would have booked elsewhere and most importantly had a comfortable stay for the all familyIMG_0354.jpg
