Luxury Room

Having stayed at other Sofitel properties across Asia, I have set my expectations high due to the wonderful and excellect service I have recieved at those other properties. Usually recieving WOW-ed service I came with an open mind even after reading some negative reviews of the hotel. I somewhatbenched mark this hotel to the Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua and the Pullman Phuket Arcidia which I have expericed very good service from both of them.

Check In

Since I was having a "Staycation" before heading off to Bangkok, I wanted to make the fullest of the stay and requested for Early Check-In which was still upon avaliabilty even though I called the hotel on the day itself around 10am while requesting for a check-in at 12pm.

Nevertheless, I still went to try and check-in at 12pm and wonderful enough, they were able to do it. I did request in an earlier email asking for an upgrade if possible however while checking in, the colleague of the person checking me in interrupted and adamantly said no upgrades for silver at all. What happen to all the goodwill of the hotel?? I found out later that occupancy was around 60% only. Rather then leave the suites empty, the hotel could have pgraded guest and create a better and more memorable experience for their loyal guest.

Room

After check in, I was esscoted to the room by the front office staff. I booked a Luxury Room whichdescription are as folling from the website

"Cosy, and well-appointed, our Luxury Room is outfitted in warm wood furnishings with a touch of soothing green accents on the carpet and in the bathroom, bringing the vibrant atmosphere of Paris’ Jardin du Luxembourg indoors. Warm contemporary furnishings along with high-speed internet access and a sleek 47-inch LED SMARTTV. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in all guest rooms.

Size: 36m"

My room was 336 and was located at Tranqulity wing of the hotel. There are 2 wings located in the hotel, Peace and Tranquility wing. I actully booked 2 rooms and both rooms were loacted side by side.

The Negative aspects of the rooms is that 1 room had a seating chair while the othe room did not and left the corner empty. Also, I find that this being a resort has no daybed or sofa in the room which annoys me alot as then I have to keep on lying on the bed.Additionally, I found that those sitting at the work desk has very little space. The chair is literaly almost touching the wall being which makes the perosn sitting there very cramp. Next to the work desk, there is a HDMI plug and a plus that allows bluetooth connections, after trying to fingure out how to use the bluetooth for 15 minutes, I gave a call to the call centre to ask for some help and apprently so, both the HDMI plug and the bluetooth function was diabled, giving the reson that they were still discussing with themanufacturer about details. I find tht a stupid reason as they have been open for over 3-4 months as a Sofitel and they still cannot operate it yet.

The Postive aspects were that the mini bar was very "funky" as it was kept in a the corner of the room enclosed in a structure that I do not know how to explain ordescribe. Also, I love how the bathroom looks, the mosaic tiles in the bathroom look amazing and the ammenties provided were Lanvin which smelled nice. As usual, I had a good sleep due to Sofitel MyBed. I also found out that the music they play when you turn on the TV was Sofitel Signture Song which was plesant to hear I must say.

Service

Service overall was really really REALLY normal to subpar, there were some excellent staff and the rest were just really doing normal service. Having stayed at Pullman Phuket Arcidia which their service might I say, WOW-ed the hell out of me. Eventhe GM comes down to the guest to strike a conversation with the guest.

However down here at the Sofitel Sentosa, I feel that yes they provide service but they dont really make the effort to go the extra mile. Something that I always look for. Honestly, if you make the efoort to go the extra mile, I'll compliment you for sure. But I hardly saw anything effort here. Other then one of the staff at Front Office and the other at the Bar, no one else WOW-ed me at all.

Pool

There was this one staff at poolside which really made me annoyed and disgusted. What I normally do at resorts is buy my own bottle of champagne and drink it by the pool. (By the way, one glass of chamagne at the hotel cost $35++) When I did it this time, I walked to the pool with a glass in my hand and the poolboy ran up to me and told me "No glass allowed aorund the pool" which I totally understand as like if it breaks and the chips go into the pool, someone might get cut. Therefore I asked if he had plastic glasses which he then proceed to take my glasess and change it to plastic flutes. After that, I felt he starting showing me attitude. The next day when I asked him for a glass of water, he showed me a "why you disturb me" face, then when it started to drizzle, I helped my mum pull her sunbed under the shelter which I might say, the sunbed was not light at all. This poolboy, instead of helping me, just stood behind me and glance the wholetime. Even the guest lying next to me offered help when he saw me struggling to move the bed. But what made me disgusted was the fact that he treated selected guest differently. When the guest a few sunbeds down asked for water, he was all smiling but when I stoped him to ask for some water, he showed attidue to me and told me Ok can. Then when he brought the water around, he somewhat slammed the plastic glass on the table. Honestly, he really needs to buck up on his service and I am really dissapointed in Soiftel for not training him.

Dining

Food at the hotel is abit pricey however being a Accor Plus member, I recieved the usual benefits of dining discounts. Food quality was alright when you ordered Ala Carte for dinner however the semi buffet felt too small. Additionally, the breakfast buffet was alright. Average I would say, comparing this buffet breakfast to the one at Sofitel Sukhumvit, Sofitel Sentosa really lacks behind and has room for improvement. However the service staff at their main reatuarant "Kwee Zeen" were friendly and so were the chefs during breakfast, they were open to replying all the questions you had or request you had.

Overall

I honestly would say that my experience here has made me not want to come back for another stay. Espically for the price I paid for. The ammenties here at the hotel are great, no denying that, nice pool, nice room, nice retaurant. However what defines a hotel is their staff and the service here really needs to be improved. Honestly, I will want to come back, on the conditions that service is improved here. If not, I would rather stay at other Accor properties in Singapore.
