Privilege room with 2 beds, high floor, Hudson River view

I stayed there several times already but my last one was about 3 years ago. This is a very good Novotel, much better than the classical ones we have in Europe. This new stay was overall good. Nothing exceptional to mention, but my normal level of expectation was met ;-) so OK.

Check In

Check-in was rapid and by a smiling agent (which was not so usual in the past, and this can be said of many NY hotels). But no mention of being a loyal client as too often in Accor hotels.

I had booked a room with 2 beds and so I was not expecting a lot in term of upgrade as no other room category on the website proposed 2 beds. But we were "upgraded" to "privilege room with 2 beds, high floor, view on Hudson River, as per the welcome letter placed in the room.

Drink voucher was given, valid for almost everything except champagne.

Room

The room was of good size, not huge but that was sufficient for us. A coffee machine was available (unfortunately not Nespresso). The VIP treatment consisted on this small plate of berries. Good but a bit meager. Minibar was free (soft drinks and water only). As you can see bathrobes and slippers were put on the beds.

Soundproofing was good (inside/outside).

Dining

Breakfast was included in our rate. It gives you access to the full buffet which proposes a very decent selection of hot and cold dishes, including the French bakeries. It's noteworthy to mention that I had the impression that 90% of the occupancy of the hotel was by French people (as was the city of NY, I was hearing French spoken constantly). The hotel was completely full so there was often a relatively long line for BF. The BF staff was not very pleasant and that has always been the case during my previous stays. Typical rude NY waiters.

One of the big plus of this hotel is its outside terrace overlooking Times Square. It was very nice to have BF or have a drink in the evening on the terrace as the weather was very pleasant when we were there (but it's not always easy to find a seat).

We had dinner once and the food was really good. Contrarily to the BF rude staff experience, the evening staff was very nice and did their best to accommodate a table for us, while the restaurant was fully booked and one of the best table, along the window, facing Times sq. To Starflyergold : the steak-frites is still excellent !! :-)

Overall

Check-out was very quick and uneventful. One good new thing since my last stay : if you want to store your luggage after check-out, they used to make you pay $1/piece stored. It's not for the sum but I was scandalized by this. This is over now.

Overall a very good stay without bad point to mention outside the semi-rude staff at BF. I recommend this hotel and, on top, it has an excellent location in town for touring.

Some renovations are obviously going on or will start : there was a giant sign displayed outside saying that some renovations will be unveiled during the fall.
