I had to spend a night in HK between 2 flights (I had basically an evening and morning to spend). I would have loved to go back to the Pullman Park Lane where I had a lovely stay less than a month ago, but I finally choose to stay at the Novotel Citygate because :

  • its proximity to the airport (shuttle runs every 15 min, 7-8 min ride)
  • The Pullman was significantly more expensive
  • I would have missed the happy hour cocktail time at the lounge of the Pullman, so really no point going downtown and better to stay close to HKG airport. And the Novotel has a Club Lounge too, so...

Here is the Novotel from the Lantau Cable car:

I booked the entry level room (classic room). Two days before the stay, I received an e-mail conforming the booking, acknowledging my Platinum status and informing me about the platinum benefits and that I would receive a Premier Executive room as an upgrade, which corresponded to a double upgrade. This e-mail was also giving me all details about where to find the shuttle at the airport.

So it looked all good :-)

I landed in HKG from Paris after a great and lovely Air France flight in P class (which has Sofitel MyBed products :-).

The AF agent in HKG who was waiting for me in the jetway drove me to immigration and took care of my checked bag which was the 1st on the belt and knew exactly where to go for the Novotel shuttle and he even took care of loading my heavy bag on-board the shuttle. Still all good !

Arrived at the hotel, I went straight to the lounge on the 21st floor (no need for a key to use the lift).

Check In

Nice welcome by the lounge agents. I was then informed that I would receive a Premier Executive suite upgrade (so triple upgrade overall). I was thanked many times for my loyalty, which contrast with many hotels who never say a word about this, especially in Europe.

I was given the drink voucher and also a BF voucher for use at the main restaurant, as unfortunately, no BF is served in the lounge. This is getting more and more common in Novotel lounges in Asia...

Room

The room was large, all windows on the wall side meaning plenty of daylight, which is something I like. In my opinion, this is more a Junior suite. Good view on the airport (which is always a plus for me as an aviation fan). I didn’t really liked the orange color of the sofa + green cushions, but this is 1st world problem...

There was a safety box, plenty of space to store your stuff if needed, a Nespresso machine, a Bluetooth speaker, enough plugs to charge all your devices. Bathroom had both shower and bathtub (with a little duck !).

I found that the welcome gift was a bit cheap (3 little macarons).

Club lounge

Club lounge evening cocktail time was very decent for a Novotel

Dining

BF selection at the main restaurant was very satisfactory. Staff was BP very nice overall. Here again I was thanked for my loyalty when I presented the BF voucher.

Swimming pool

The hotel has a very decent gym and outdoor swimming pool.

Overall

On the practical side, apart the airport shuttle, they have also a shuttle to Asia World expo when there are exhibitions there. And they are connected to the metro if you want to go downtown, and to the Lantau Cable car (5 mIn walking from the hotel lobby).

I checked out at the lounge very quickly and took the shuttle back to HKG airport for my next destination (Hanoi for another stay at the lovely Sofitel Legend Métropole).

Overall, a very good short stay. This is certainly not a Pullman but it’s a very good Novotel and I would rate it higher than the Novotel Century in Wan Chai. If I have enough time, I would prefer of course to stay at the Pullman, but this Novotel is a perfect airport hotel which treats Accor Elite members very well and so I would return without hesitation in the same configuration.
