Stats

Hello - I had asked for a few tidbits on the Hilton Los Cabos in the past, so now that we're back I wanted to offer a little review.

First, we absolutely loved the property, the staff, everything about the place. And though we're only gold, we got great treatment, comparable with some diamonds we talked to. Now for a few specifics.

Check In

Check in was great, and kind of different from any other hotel I've been to. We pull up in front of the bellstand (free parking all week, btw) and they ask - "Checking in?" Upon responding yes, the valet says that he will take care of everything, walks us to the front desk and then goes to get us margaritas. He then sits us down on the porch overlooking the pool and ocean, and goes back to unpack the car and park it while we chill out. VERY cool. (If you stay here, ask for the bellman named Jesus - he's a little guy who is very friendly.)

Room

In a few minutes he's back with a full cart and we're off to the room. The room was excellent -

I may be wrong, but it seems that most of the upgrades are actually in terms
the view. There are three types of rooms - a standard king or double like shown above, a junior suite and a suite.

Our room, 4068, was all the way at the end of one of the points of the hotel. Some diamonds we met had the exact same room across on the other side (4028) so that's why I guess that most of the upgrades were in terms of the view. Regardless, the room was great I thought.

Service

We got the breakfast certs. It turns out that how they are "applied" can vary depending on who you ask. Our first day, the server said that if we wanted the full buffet, it would cost $10, but our certs entitled us to anything "cold" off the buffet that we wanted. Great. So for a couple of days we do that, one time we upgrade. Then, a few days later, we just got the cold stuff, and our server charged us for the upgrade. When we challenged it, the manager explained that the free continental breakfast is ONLY - juice, fruit and pastries - specifically brought to us by a server. I'm happy to follow whatever the program is, but they need to get their story straight and stick with it. I've read other accounts over on Trip Advisor, of staff telling people with certs to just get the full buffet anyway. So it may all depend on who you luck into, which day. In any event, both the hot and cold stuff were great on the buffet, and I thought the $10 upgrade was reasonable. Though there's no way in hell I'd pay the full $25 per person if I didn't have the certs.

If you stay at the Hilton and need the concierge, be sure to ask for Pablo. He's a bald guy (just say that to help you find him.). He gave us so much information. And while I'm sure he gets kickbacks from the activities that he steers people to - he took our tastes into account and steered us away from things we might not like - for example we did a smaller boat for whale watching instead of a larger one. He was VERY helpful with activities, dinner reservations, everything we needed.

The infinity pool is sparkling and refreshing. The service is top notch. In the mornings, the attendants come around with frozen fresh fruit and then cool washcloths. In the afternoon, they come around with popsicles. All of that is included as part of your room cost.

We loved the poolside grill. One of the standouts on the menu was the mini-burgers. Definitely get those. Be warned that the drinks and food at the pool aren't cheap. All food is about $17-$20 and cocktails range from $10-$14. Our daily pool tab was averaged around $60. Some may think this is high but I sort of viewed it like - if you've got the means to stay at the Hilton then paying $10 for a margarita shouldn't be that much of a stretch.

Getting chairs by the pool is a pain. If you want the primo chairs that face the ocean, you have to get up at 5:30 and go "reserve" one with a book or towel. All of these are gone by 6:15 tops. Then ALL of the poolside chairs, view or not, are gone by 8:00am. I learned to get up, go do it, and then go back to bed.

One morning while saving our chairs, I went ahead and got in the pool for a GREAT sunrise pic -

Let's see, what else - It may be just a gold/diamond thing, but we had full access to the spa and gym for no charge. They have great locker rooms, each gender has their own steam, sauna and jacuzzi and the attendants are top-notch. My wife got a couple of spa treatments and was pleased, but not wowed - says she's had better.

Overall

In sum, we had a blast and can't wait to go back.Fire away with questions/comments.

(Interesting - I tried to insert the pics with html but it came back as a hotlink. I guess FT won't let you do that. Oh well, click the link for pics of the place.)
