Two Double Bed Deluxe Room

The front desk staff were very friendly at check-in and welcomed us with the signature DoubleTree chocolate chip cookies.

As a Diamond member, we were upgraded from a standard double guest room to a two double bed deluxe room (note that there are no suites in this property – Executive rooms are the highest room category).

A 360-degree virtual tour of the hotel (lobby, Executive lounge, restaurant, rooms etc) can be accessed on the hotel’s website: http://doubletree3.hilton.com/en/hotels/united-kingdom/doubletree-by-hilton-hotel-london-islington-LONLIDI/photo-tours/index.html

Two double bed deluxe room

The room was adequately sized and fairly spacious given that it is a hotel in central London. The room was at the back of the hotel, so there was not much of a view.

The wifi speed in the room was satisfactory (see my post in another thread).

The bathroom was quite small and sterile with plain white tiles.

Executive Lounge

The Executive Lounge is situated at the back of the hotel on the ground floor. Access is by key card. The Lounge is staffed during breakfast and Happy Hour.

During the day, hotel guests with access to the Lounge can help themselves to tea, coffee, soft drinks and snacks (such as cookies, nuts, fruit etc).

Between 6pm and 8pm daily, complimentary Happy Hour drinks are available – red wine (SSon Excellence yrah), white wine (Son Excellence Sauvignon Blanc) and beer (Kronenbourg 1664) – as well as some hot food items and canapés. During our stay, the food on offer included samosas, deep fried fish, lamb meat balls, vegetarian spring rolls, sweet and sour pork ribs, vegetable (green pepper and aubergine) tempura – 2 items were put out each evening.

The breakfast buffet consisted of a few hot dishes (scrambled eggs, mushrooms, bacon, sausages), smoked salmon, pastries, bread, fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereal etc. In addition, omelettes, poached eggs, boiled eggs, Eggs Benedict, smoked salmon bagels and crumpets were available made to order.

However, the breakfast buffet in the restaurant (see below) is more comprehensive.

Breakfast in the restaurant

The restaurant offers a breakfast buffet from 6:30am to 10:30am (weekdays) and 11am (weekends). The full breakfast buffet is available free of charge for Diamond and Gold members.

The buffet consisted of a good variety of cooked and continental breakfast options – hot items (such as bacon, sausages, mushrooms, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, potato scone etc), porridge, cereal and granola, yoghurt, pastries and bread, fresh fruit, salad, cold cuts etc.

Facilities

The fitness centre is open 24/7 (access by key card) and is situated on the ground floor.

There are a few computers and printers on the ground floor which hotel guests can use.

Location

The hotel is conveniently located around 5 minutes’ walk from Angel tube station. There are lots of interesting eateries, cafes, bars, shops etc in the area, including the farmers' market on Sunday mornings just two blocks from the hotel (Chapel Market).

Overall

We enjoyed our stay at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel London – Islington. Service was great – the front desk, Executive Lounge and cleaning staff were very friendly and willing to help us during our stay.
