Completed my stay here.

Positives:
1- Same great huge pool area with heated pool. Would be perfect except a building is going up next door - and makes a lot of sound all day while trying to relax.
2- Breakfast area is lovely now and food offerings have definitely improved. Lots of options on offer for the omnivore, pescetarian and vegetarian. Fresh juices too. If they improved their fruit offering (add ripe mango and ripe papaya) they'd be equal to the SGS breakfast imo.
3- All the restaurants offer 15% off for Starwood members. Takes the sting out of the high prices.
4- Service remains exemplary.
5- Upgraded to huge suite as usual continuing my run of 100% upgrades here.
6- 1x free laundry, 2 pieces per person. An appreciated add to clean a shirt on arrival.
7- Fruit plate offered as Plat welcome gift in room with chocolates - replenished as I ate it daily. Nice touch.
8- Internet is fast - 70 Mbps down, 2 Mbps up.

Average
1- The lovely large lounge is still lovely and large. But when I asked what type of red wine they had on offer for happy hour, they told me Merlot. I said "and"? They responded, that's it. Huh? Can't you offer a second option? Further I found the food offerings to be stale. Not in taste - but rather in options. One meat and one fish hot dish. Which was decent. But cheeses are always the same and the canapes they offer are just too weird for me. Fruit plate is very small and fruit is never ripe. I recall this lounge having some of the best food offerings in BKK in the past, but imo it has gone downhill. I still enjoy the ambiance and the staff but they need to ramp back up the food and wine pairings.
2- The gym has ample space but could do with a few more machines and absolutely needs another bench. They have free weights but only 1 bench. Four guys trying to work in over one bench just doesn't cut it. Add a second bench, there is plenty of room.

The bad
1- Locale. It's walking distance to the BTS (4-5 minutes max). Not bad at all in this regard. Better option is to walk right when leaving and then your first left. You will hit BTS straight away. But it's the lack of good food close by that bothers me. I like sometimes to have lunch or a quick bite near my hotel and in this case it is hard to do. Which leaves you stuck at their hotel restaurants (which are good and there are plenty of options). But makes you feel like you are at a resort (sort of stuck there).

I am a fan of the Athenee and will stay again. But for me, it has to be 3-4 nights max since I get tired of the locale after that.
