Pre arrival

We were extensively in touch with the hotel before arrival to organise pick up, book a number of restaurants and to make sure that our room preferences were taken care of. We always received prompt, helpful and friendly answers and felt very certain that we would have a great stay.

Upon arrival we were met by the representative from Peninsula just after collecting our bags and within minutes we were in the very comfortable Peninsula Mercedes on our way to the hotel. Internet connection over WLAN and water in the car.

Arriving at the hotel, we were met by the director of rooms and a number of other employees and taken to our suite where the check in formalities were finished.

The Peninsula has a top location directly at the Bund with a fantastic view from some of the rooms and suites plus from the rooftop bar.

Our room was a garden view suite which was beautiful and very spacious. An entrance hall with separate powder room lead us through to the living room with sitting area in front of a fireplace, dining table and writing desk. Our son’s bed was set up behind the sofa. From there through a large door we entered the bedroom with a huge (the biggest I ever slept in, I think) double bed and from the bedroom one would go further into the excellent wardrobe (more space than you could dream of) and the beautiful bathroom. Everywhere state of art technical solutions for lightening etc. Two large TVs, coffee and tea making facilities and minibar. Beautiful flower arrangements and a very nice amenity for our son plus some delicious sweets welcomed us.

We stayed 4 nights.

Service

From concierge to housekeeping – I cannot find a single thing to complain about. Everybody did their very best to make sure that our stay was as comfortable as possible. All our requests were handled correctly and quickly, always with a smile.

The only thing that was slightly irritating was that there could be quite a wait for taxis outside of the hotel at times, but this is of course outside the control of the hotel. We made sure to call for a taxi before leaving our suite to limit the waiting time.

Pool, gym and spa

Husband and son enjoyed the gym and pool almost every day. The pool is beautiful and huge and there are very comfortable loungers around it. Did not try the spa. 

Dining

We had most of our meals outside since we wanted to try a number of local restaurants recommended to us by the concierge. However, we loved our welcome to Shanghai drinks at the bar the first early evening with the most amazing view and also found the breakfast buffet to be excellent.
