Location

This property is located next to the main Hiroshima JR station where you will also find as the main transportation hub for the city of Hiroshima.  The airport bus from HIJ aiport stops here.  This JR station has both local and Shinkansen stops.  Around the hotel there are the usual large stores and lots of food outlets.  The hotel is located about 15 mins by streetcar to downtown Hiroshima/Peace Memorial park area.  Walking to Hondori street from the hotel takes about 20-30 mins.

Check In

Check-in is located 7 floors above from the street level.  Depending on which direction you come from, it can be slightly difficult to find the entrance.  There is a small concierge desk on the ground/street level floor.

Since I also checked in on different occasionals within the 3 weeks I was in the city, there was different level of service.  Some of the associates were more friendly, the rests were ok.

As a PP level member, I found the recognition at this property to be very limited and just follows the rules as per what is written.  There was no real upgrade provided (best was to a room on the Club level floor - which I don't actually consider it as an upgrade).  There's also no additional welcome gift provided (e.g a bottle of wine or some welcome amenities in the room) besides what's written per the rules.

Room

For all my different stays, the room was exactly the same.  Room was spacious and airy.  There is a large ceiling to floor window and depending on the side of the hotel, it faces either the railway tracks and the Mazda stadium or view of the station/hills.

The bed was comfortable without being too hard or soft.  The AC unit was working well with good temperature control and a very silent fan control.  There is a tea/coffee making facility in the room.  Internet was fast and stable.

Bathroom was spacious.  Bath amenities was well provided with no individual bottles but instead it was the generic refillable pump type found in the bathroom.  The brand seems to be Citroen & Vertier - which had a sort of musky type of scent.  They also had a clothes/air freshner spray in the wardrobe with the same scent (first I've seen at a hotel).

The room noise isolation was ok, although when everything was silent, you can still hear the trains -which could be an issue if you are a very light sleeper.

One remark on the rooms, the hotel still has smoking rooms - which is ok.  However since they have no dedicated floor for smoking room, very often when going to my room in the afternoon, the hall way smelled heavily of cigaratte smoke.  Seems that they do refresh the hallways everyday but still I think for people who have medical conditions due to this, it is not a very nice experience.  Luckily the smell did not get also into my room.

Dining

Breakfast:

The breakfast in the main hotel restaurant was good.  The breakfast room was quite large although there were still waits during peak hours.  As usual, there was a large selection of Japanese and Western options with a live egg preparation station.  Only small complain is that the food selection was stagnant - same food and options during my every visit to the restaurant.

Did try the Japanese restaurant on-site and the property seems to be sufficiently busy.  Prices were ok with in-house guest getting some additional discount.  Food was fresh and very well presented.

Club lounge

The club lounge is located on the 20th floor.  Breakfast, tea time and evening happy hour is served here.

For breakfast, the choices are very limited - mainly western type of dishes although you can order eggs from the associate.

For tea time period - which basically starts after the breakfast service is finished, consists mainly of biscuits, scones, pastries, etc.

For the evening happy hour, there are 4 different hot dishes - mainly 2 western type and 2 asian type.  There are  2-3 different appetizers and also 2-3 different kind of cheese.   Beverages during the happy hour is as usual.

The only main complain is again the variation of dishes - basically it is the same dishes every night with maybe a change in the meat choice, but other than that, it is more or less the same hot dish.  They do change the choices of the appetizers.

One interesting and nice feature is after the breakfast service, both red and white wine is available until late at night - which is nice.

Never really saw the lounge to be over crowded even in the weekends which is nice.

Service

Service in general is good with friendly associate, on the other hand, this is expected for a hotel at this standard.  There are however some staff especially the main restaurant breakfast staff that does seem a bit dis-interested in their job which for me is quite unusual in Japan.

The Club Loung staff was impecable, friendly and very accommodating.

Overall

Overall a good hotel especially if you need a room that is sufficiently roomy and airy.  However a few improvement points would really be

- improvement in appreciation of Elite members

- if the hotel wants to cater to smokers, maybe have a dedicated floor for smokers

- paying basically for everything else, usage of the swimming pool, sauna, locker room, etc.  Luckily the gym was complimentary (and had some good equipments)
