Short Review

I just returned from a 3 night stay at the new One&Only Hayman Island resort and it was BRILLIANT! I'd recommend it in a heartbeat. I will post a more in depth review soon (with photos and youtube clip), but I hereby share some keypoints with you:

Pros:
- stunning, beach-front location on it's own large private island
- the accommodations are top notch and in line with other One&Only resorts: large, beautiful room decoration, stunning bathrooms, & supersoft beds.
- they have 3 on-site restaurants (Italian, Asian, and Australian) which all serve delicious food
- they have 2 pools: the iconic hexagonal Hayman pool (adult oriented) and a new, smaller, beach-front pool which mostly seem to cater to families
- the beach is gorgeous
- lots of brilliant (but hyperexpensive) excursions, most of them involving a flight (e.g. Whitheaven beach, Great Barrier Reef)
- everything is new after an extensive make-over
- staff was professional and excellent

"Cons":
- the (old) hotel buildings are an eyesore
- at low tide, the sea is 'gone', leaving a big empty sandy field in front of hotel. It is nature of course, but not a pretty sight from an esthetical point of view.
- the beach is not a powdry white one, bot composed of greyish soft sand.
- WiFi was variable during our stay.

For your information, I stayed at the following hotels as well during my trip Down Under:
- Park Hyatt Sydney: excellent
- Longitude 131 lodge: not worth the very high price tag
- Cicada Lodge: a hidden gem
If you want, I can share you my review of them as well.
