Check In

Check-in: Arrived rather late to the hotel, so check-in was fast. Did already an on-line check in. I was surprised but since I was not upgraded to the floor with Executive lounge access (not that I think there are any differences in the room physically) I was told that since I did an online check-in, my room preference was 1st priority for the hotel to keep. This is my first time hearing this - because when doing online check-in, there is no option to get a complimentary upgrade to the Executive room. [anyone can confirm this?]. I was only upgraded when I proposed for them to give my any room with access to the lounge.

Room

Room: Room allocated on the odd ending floor 6. This was facing the construction side and the open area of the function halls downstairs. Room was I would say on the smaller side. Newly renovated. Bed was comfortable and they do have this plug tower next to the tv (you would have to notice it as it is a push up thing). TV was I would say a higher end flatscreen tv. 2 water bottles provided (1 still, 1 sparkling). There was an empty fridge provided. There was a connecting door to the headboard side. Main issue encountered - noise. On a Saturday early around 630 am, work started at the construction side and you could hear the machineries working - which woke me. Thin walls and doors - I heard my neighbours talking at the different time and when they returned around 2 am from partying and when people returning to their rooms. The next evening, the function rooms were used for some banquet, and returning to the room around 11pm, you could hear them all the way up to the 6th floor.

Dining

Breakfast: Very good breakfast spread. The breakfast team worked well despite the crowds on both days. One of the best breakfast spread from a Doubletree property. They had some really good Irish porridge.

Bar: Not too bad bar with good beer selection on the tap. Food selection was quite ok.

Location

Location: This wouuld be the worst point for this hotel. I would just basically say this is at the edge of the city. As many have mentioned, it will take you a good 15 mins to walk to St. Stephens Green park and another 10 mins to the edge of Temple Bar. Close to the hotel there are a few quite good resturants and pub. Other than that, not much to do around the hotel. Also as mentioned the AirCoach stops infront of the hotel. There are other public buses that runs close to the hotel.

Overall

Executive lounge: They also had breakfast here - I was told continental breakfast. I did not try, so no comment how 'continental' it was. During the daytime, non-alcoholic drinks available (except for the Guiness) - with snacks available. During the evening cocktail hours - the spread was ok - a real cocktail spread and not something you can make into dinner - unless you just needed some small bites. Other than that both the red and white wine was ok - beer selection was not too bad. Since the lounge is not that big, it can get crowded- luckily there is the bar area. The lounge is located on the ground floor (same as reception) just before the restaurant.

Generic: An ok property, however for the price paid, I would say this is slightly on the expensive side especially since it is not centrally located and rooms on the smaller side. The only reason I will come back is for the breakfast and as the only Hilton propertywith a lounge. I did pass by the gym (6th floor) - it lookedvery well equipped with a nice view towards the city.

Service

Was ok - nothing out of the expected service.

Bathroom

Bathroom: Was rather narrow - again all newly renovated with I would say good quality products but bad workmanship. Within a year after renovation, you could see the fixing loose (the shower controls were basically 1 cm gap away from the wall and shaky. Water pressure was ok if you use the faucets, but with the shower head, it was rather weak - not the best wake me up shower to have. All the usual toiletries provided.
