I just needed a one night stop over in Bali on my way to Komodo so I decided to stay in the Kuta area instead of my usual area in Seminyak. My choice was mainly guided by price and location. Needed something relatively cheap and not too far from the airport.
Location
As said previously by other members, the hotel is located in the back alleys of Kuta. It's not that far from the beach walk but it's not a straight forward walk. It's basically behind the Beach Walk Mall, which is next to the Sheraton.
Those back alleys are small and narrow. You can barely cross paths with a motorbike at some points... so yeah, not the taxi drivers' favorite spot. One even asked me for tips because of the location... Those small streets are theoretically not one way but the cars seem to be circulating only one way, which is from the beach towards inland. You're better off renting a motorbike.
There are lots of convenience stores, restaurants and bars nearby but I didn't try any of them due to time issues.
Check In
I arrived at the hotel at around 10PM, after a painful 30-45min drive from the airport due to the bad traffic on the beachfront street. I would recommend using the hotel car service, which at my time, was offered at IDR 215,000. The taxis at the airport were a joke. The first quote I had from there was IDR 250,000. I laughed and said my hotel is providing the transfer for 200,000 (yes I lied haha).
We eventually agreed on 140,000. My Indonesian friends said that I could only pay 70,000-90,000 if I was speaking to them in Bahasa.... I booked the hotel car for the next day to the airport.
No waiting at check-in. Was greeted warmly by the attendants and the check-in agents. I was SPG Gold when I made the reservation so I pointed out to them that my profile should have been updated already to Plat. They checked and amended my profile. That's when he said "oh we upgrade you to our Suite, we want you to have a very nice first stay with us". Ok fine. BUT I had to wait like an hour for it to be cleaned.... maybe another Plat kept it until 4PM or something.... I agreed as I needed a quick foot massage anyway. I just asked them for a place to shower and change into more comfortable clothes. They escorted my to the gym where I changed and showered.
When I returned, my bags were placed in my room and I was escorted to the Suite "the best we have Sir".
For my Plat amenity, I chose points as my rate already included breakfast.
Room
So the upgrade to their Family Suite was basically a bigger room with a seating area. From what the staff said, it's double the size of a regular room. I remember seeing Leisure Suites as well on their website so not sure whether those are real suites or not.
Nice big room really, with lots of space, lots of storage space for your luggage and clothes. Glass separation with the bathroom/toilet. Separate shower (with somehow a weird location), a mini fridge to store your drinks (it's not a minibar), plenty of drinking water.
The room has a balcony with a view on the lagoon pool. I have to say it's a bit noisy in the morning when families and kids play in there... for those who party until the early morning, not the best set up haha.
Pool
I didn't have time to use the pools and most has been said already in previous reviews. Here are the photos. It's only open until 10PM which is a good thing.
Dining
Had the included breakfast in the morning. It was quite busy but I did not see anyone queuing to get a table, so that's good. Fairly large selection of food, moslty Asian choices and lots of fruits as well. With your usual egg station, pancakes, waffles, rice, noodles, bread, yoghurts and other muesli.
Gym
I saw the gym when I went there to change and shower at check-in time. It's not big but should be enough for a quick work out. However, it has huge floor to ceiling windows facing the lagoon pool, which means facing all the rooms. So at night, you work out with all the people being able to see and watch you sweat your bumm out :)
Overall
I'm with the rest of you who stayed here, I would give it a 50/50 chance to stay here again. If I'm in Bali for a longer stay, I would definitely not stay in Kuta. For a one or two night stay, maybe I'd return. Though I'd check out the rates at the Sheraton or the Stones.
The staff was great though, always helpful and smiling and trying their best to get things done. So kudos to them.
