If your travels take you to Central Islip, NY, the Courtyard Islip/Courthouse Complex is a perfectly fine place to stay. It is inexpensive, comfortable, and has a couple of unexpected amenities that make it worthwhile.
Check In
Check-in, as usual, was a breeze. In my experience, they no longer need your credit card if you have one on file -- just your ID. I was not greeted as a Gold but I was told I get the enhanced internet complimentarily, and my key card was in an elite-branded jacket. The woman at the front desk was very friendly -- this seems to be a common theme across Long island. She also took the time to tell me about some of the facilities and breakfast in the morning.
Room
The room itself is typical for a Courtyard; I would say this was redone in the first round of renovations. Everything was fine; nothing especially stood out. I did like that they had a microwave in the room. Strangely, several of the lamps were out, and the closet had no hangars.
The bathroom had a walk-in shower which was surprisingly large. I liked that a lot. I did not love that it had the soap dispenser bottles instead of the minis, but it's better than nothing I suppose.
I also did not like getting woken up by this at 7:15 am. (Actually it did not wake me up -- I woke up around 5 am and couldn't fall back asleep.)
Patio
The property has a very nice patio out back with a firepit, barbeques, and tables with chairs. It is open until 11pm. Reentry requires a key card.
Dining
This property has the typical Courtyard bistro, which I usually skip. What allured me to this property, however, was the mention of a free breakfast online. And it's true! They had a complimentary continental breakfast buffet.
It was honestly nothing special. Whole milk, yogurt, oranges, cereals, oatmeal packets, Nutri-Grain bars, and OJ, along with Starbucks coffee. If you're on a diet as I am, there wasn't much to eat, but it is certainly sufficient and a welcome surprise, especially at a Courtyard.
Location
The Courtyard shares a parking lot with a Residence Inn. It is walking distance to the Suffolk County courthouse, the Islip Town Fire & EMS Museum, and the Long Island Ducks stadium. It's also a 15-20 minutes' drive to MacArthur Airport (ISP). It is convenient if you need to be in the area.
Overall
This property was a fine place to stay for a night. I was able to use their business center (which is in a hallway near the elevator and is more just a desk with instructions to wirelessly connect to a printer) to print some stuff out -- they had a color printer and I definitely took advantage of that. I wouldn't go out of my way to return here, but between the friendly staff and the free breakfast, I would stay here again if it were convenient.
