Minor glitches - overall good hotel

I spent a weekend at this property - first impression underwhelming due to some glitches - however, the team provided good service recovery and overall it is a good hotel.

Booked a basic King room, received the Hilton email three days before the arrival date informing I was upgraded to a King premium junior suite due to Diamond status. However, at check in I was downgraded to King room with city view. I didn't bother to complain. I was also informed that breakfast is complimentary for Diamonds in the breakfast room at level -2 and that hotel is offering a tasting of local products for an hour every evening.

I was also informed that the room rate was prepaid and a 100euro guarantee would be put on the card on file. I noticed later that my card was charged with the 100 euro hold plus the room rate for the two days that was already paid. Checked with reception later in the evening, they apologized and were aware that a mistake happened during check in, that amount would be refunded.

Assigned to room 908, rooms are quite small but comfortable with a very good shower and bed. I noticed however the window was not fully closed and a noisy windy draft was coming in. Called reception, they sent immediately someone to try to fix the window but it was not possible.  I was then given a new key and upgraded to a one bedroom suite 938.

Quite an annoying check in process, but from now on things will go much better.

Room is comfortable, temperature control works well and it is very silent, minibar stocked, tea/coffee and nespresso machine available. There is no bottled water you are instead invited to drink tap water that in Madrid is usualy good and provided with jug and glasses.

Bathroom is quite latge, good shower, Apivita shower gel, shampoo and conditioner - full amenities are provided (bathrobe, slippers, soap, shaving kit, toothbrush and so on)

After the initial glitches service was good. friendly staff through the hotel and attention to details in the restaurant

I had dinner at the Escandalo restaurante and the following afternoon some tapas at the "Planta Z food truck & terrace" and bot offered a good selection of quality food. You can certainly find cheaper food in Madrid but overall quality and service were excellent. The food truck terrace is a nice concept and a pleasant place to have tapas and drink with friends.

Breakfast is served between 7.30 and 11.00 during weekends in the basement -2, in a large and well decorated room. It is a good spread with several hot choices, cold cuts including Jamon iberico, salmon, ham; two cakes, fruits, pastries, juices.

Canopy Madrid Castellana is very well located. Few minutes walk from both Nuevos Ministerios and Santiago Bernabeu metro stations. It is in a business district not far from the historical city centre. There are many restaurants and bar in the area and it is few minutes walk from the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. It is also well connected to the airport as there is a direct metro line from Nuevos ministerios.

It is not what I define a good looking building from outside and there are some glitches in service - hopefully these will disappear soon.

However, the interior is completely new, it is a large hotel with over 300 rooms, opened in September 2021 (used to be a Holiday Inn, and went through a complete refurbishment before rebranding as a Canopy by Hilton). There is a rooftop pool opened during summer and a fitness center that I did not use but looked decent.

Service has potential to be good and both restaurant and the food truck terrace offer good quality food.
