Matakauri is a sister property of the Farm at Cape Kidnappers and part of the Robertson portfolio of properties. It is 10 minutes outside of Queenstown (when driving to Blanket Bay, you would pass Matakauri) and on Lake Wakatipu with stunning views of the Remarkables.

Our quick tour of the property did not have Mother Nature cooperating. It was raining and visibility extremely poor. For that reason, I did not get a great feel for the property at all - I felt a bit closed in as the property feels close to the water. I am very curious to see it when it isn't raining.

This is the main lodge, where guests would first arrive.

The property features 12 suites with 8 of them being separate villas and the other four part of the main lodge. New, as of 2014, is a 4 bedroom owners cottage, which we toured. The interior design was done by Virginia Fisher and feminine in feel. By comparison, Blanket Bay was quite masculine. This first picture is the sitting area where guests can be checked in or relax in the main lodge. There is a fireplace, not shown.

A partial wall separates the sitting room from the breakfast area.

Upstairs from those two rooms is a library where guests can use a computer, watch TV, borrow some books, or hide and do some work.

I wasn't able to see the individual rooms, but did get a tour of the owner's cottage. With four bedrooms, it is a great place for a large family, group of friends, or a multi-generational holiday.

This is the same living room, from a slightly different viewpoint.

One bedroom.

View from the bed.

Every bedroom has it's own bathroom.

Another bedroom.

Respective bathroom.

Stand alone bath tub and showers throughout. Great view, too!

We didn't get to see much, but what we did see was lovely. The Robertson properties are all world class, so I have no doubt a guest would have a quality stay at the property.
