Don't see a thread for this hotel, so thought I'd review my stay last night. It's a beautiful property and while the hotel has some shortcomings, I would happily return. Here's the announcement of the acquisition by Hilton, which summarizes some of the hotel's history.

My wife and I stayed here for Valentine's weekend. While the hotel was offering a package consisting of a prix fixe dinner, dancing and brunch, we elected to do things a la carte. Of note, I had use the diamond gauranteed room benefit to make the reservation, as the hotel was apparently at capacity for the holiday. The booked room was a King Bed, Long Island Sound View.

Check In

I was thanked for being a diamond member, given 2 bottles of water, and 2 breakfast coupons. We were given a room on the top (4th) floor.

Room

Room 411 turned out to be a corner room in the "East Wing."The room was spacious and the views ofthe shoreline were lovely. Facing the east, this room gets sunrise, not sunset views. We didn't spend much time on the balcony, as the temperature dropped to single digits, but it must be wonderful in the summer.

Service

Everyone was warm and pleasant. A lot of previous reviews praise the concierge service, which we didn't need/use (we're locals).

Dining

The hotel restaurant, The Wharf, is currently undergoing renovations, so dinner and breakfast was served in "Tides On The Sound" on the second floor. The bar and dining room were contiguous with an event space room, probably used for weddings etc. The Wharf gets very mixed reviews so we had tempered expectations. It was pretty much exactly what I expected, classic American fare with an emphasis on seafood. We had some very good dishes, e.g.., calamari and and panko-crusted cod. My wife's steak was forgettable. The service was pretty mediocre - this was our experience both at dinner and breakfast. The waiting staff just seemed aloof, and things moved a very slow pace. We each had a 3 course meal (shared dessert) with a few drinks, and the bill was about $120. Definitely on the pricey side, and certainly not the best value out there.

Breakfast diamond coupons could be redeemed for continental breakfast or $10 each towards other items. We ordered off the menu - eggs benedict (meh), vegetable omelette with cheddar (GREAT cheddar), banana bread (fine), coffee, OJ was about $50 ($30 after coupons were applied). Again, pricey...

Here's a picture of the bar. It opens up to large deck that again, must be great in the summer.

Location

Right on the beach!

Overall

Fantastic rooms with private balconies overlooking the water at a reasonable price (about $165 - $265 depending on season).

The hotel also has a spa, which we didn't utilize.

Dining and service is adequate, but could be better.

Regarding diamond treatment, nothing special - I didn't inquire about "upgrades" as the hotel was at capacity. I suspect the "South Wing" rooms have a better view of the water (and sunset of course). Room 406, called "Captain's Quarters," appears to be some kind of suite.

I'm really looking forward to coming back in the summer and washing down some oysters with a glass of sav blanc on one of the decks.
