Check In

Check in was a little slow - the lady spent ages trying to find me my 'upgraded executive King' and I thought that she was perhaps waiting for me to say it was OK - I would take the normal room.  Needless to say there was a long awkward pause while I did not back down!  I was checking in after the advertised check in time so I would have expected a room to be available!

Room

I was a little disappointed by the decor of the room.  I was expecting it to be a lot more modern just from the outside and public areas.  The corridors are a bit higgldy piggidly - considering it looks like a ready built hotel - it was not until I got in that I realised that the front was modern but the rest was 'normal'!  That said, the bed was super comfy as always at Marriotts.

I was given a welcome gift of some fancy lemonade and some fruit sweets - lovely.

The bathroom was modern but small - shower over the bath.  Amenities were nice.

Service

Service was OK - there was the long check in thing and then I checked out at 3am and was surprised not to be asked why I was checking out at that time and was anything wrong.  Nothing was but as the night watchman had to wake the receptionist, it was obvioulsy an unusual occurrence!!

The young chap in the Executive lounge was very good and keep the drinks and food flowing for the full 2 hours without hiding away that some can do.

Dining

I only ate in the Executive Lounge so cant judge the bar or restaurant.  The menus looks fine though and enough to suit all palettes!

The hot food was a posh fish finger and a lamb samosa - some were disappointed there was no hot veg option.  There was also some cold meats and cheese and biscuits, plus some dessert options.

The drinks included a red and white wine, plus a beer - all were replenished frequently.

The lounge on the other hand was very dark and dingy - no natural light which was completely against what the rest of the hotel looked like - the was definately an afterthought room!

Therefore mixed emotions about this lounge - food OK and suitable if you didnt want a big dinner but the surroundings were pretty poor.

Location

The hotel is located in Kensington and is well placed for public transport.  There is a tube station and a bus stop very close by plus Earls Court and Olympia within walking distance.

If you are going to events at either Earls Court or Olympia then this is a good choice.

It is near a main room and there is also some parking at this hotel but whilst I didnt use it or see it, I hear there are not many spaces so get there quick!

Overall

Overall th hotel is nice and solid - nothing outstanding but it is a safe choice for all of lOndon as the public transport will get you everywhere and if the price is right that I would recommend it.
