Stats

This week I happened to be in Venice for this year's Art Biennale. There are limited Accorhotels in the area and the Hotel Papadopoli is the only one in actual Venice (the old part). Overall this was a wonderful stay at an excellent hotel with outstanding service.

Check In

Check in was swift and everything was pre-prepared (without the need for the online check in). I was welcomed enthusiastically and told "you booked the best room in the house", i.e. the Sky Suite. No upgrade was possible ;)

Drinks voucher was handed over, and while it said everything but champagne or spirits I had a very refreshing G&T on the terrace of the bar.

Room

The bellhop took me up to my room which is accessible directly by elevator. Swipe your room key in the elevator and it takes you directly to the Suite which is located on the top floor.

As one can imagine the decor was very chintzy, this is Venice after all, and while it may not be my taste it had a very luxurious feel to it.

While this is sold as a Suite it does not have separate rooms but featured a very comfortable bed, large sofa, armchairs, dining table and desk. Further down the corridor were the bathroom, ample closets and minibar.

Welcome gift: a box of pasta and a box of biscuits.

Turn down service was a box of chocolates and free water.

The bathroom was huge and included a large tub and separate walk in shower with LED lighting and a separate toilet room. Toiletries were lovely Acqua di Parma.

The Suite also featured a massive outdoor terrace with views over Venice.  There appeared to be also a Jacuzzi but it was covered and I presumed not in service.

Service

Service was outstanding throughout: from the welcome at reception to the bar and the restaurant staff. Everybody went out of their way to please you. After some rather questionable customer service experience in Italy I was very pleasantly surprised by this. For once the Accor moniker "Feel Welcome" was really true.

Dining

Breakfast was included in the rate and is served in the hotel's wintergarden, a lush and bright room. While there were was some minor construction the view to the garden was unfortunately obscured.

Brekafast choices were plenty, eggs to order and a large choice of sweet and savoury options to hoose from. In good Italian fashion the coffee was delicious.

I also had dinner on the terrace and it was delicious. Le Club members receive 20% off the food and drinks bills which is a nice add on. An extra amuse bouche before the meal and a Limoncello afterwards were on the house.

Location

The location of the hotel is excellent. It is perfectly located at the entrance to the old town, a mere 3 minute walk from Piazzale Roma, Venice's transport hub, 5 minutes from the train station. A taxi ride (fixed fare) from Marco Polo Airport (VCE) is €40 one way.

The location means you don't have to mess about with luggage on the very busy vaporettos. My rate included a 2 day free transport ticket for buses, trams and vaporettos.

Overall

Overall this was an excellent stay at a beautiful hotel, made all the better by the excellent staff. I have no hesitation to recommend this hotel. Truly remarkable.

Lastly, value: This hotel is not cheap, nothing in Venice is. For the rate I paid I could have stayed at a luxury hotel in Asia for a week, not just 2 nights, but in my view it was good value for money.
