Check In
I did mobile check in. It was not fully set up when I arrived.
I was offered 1000 points since they do not have a lounge. I was further offered breakfast or 750 points as a platinum amenity.
The breakfast was offered with as a buffet on the first floor or a la carte in the American bar on the ground floor. I understand both would be complimentary for a platinum guest.
Room
We had booked the standard room, but wére put into a larger room as an upgrade.
There was a separate bath and shower.
The shower had very good water pressure and multiple reusable bottles. I chose this time to not pump their contents into water bottles. ;)
A lot of the items were branded with the hotel's name.
The entry way had a sizable closet with plenty of storage.
There was a decent Nespresso machine and a really nice writing pad which my travel partner decided to take home.
We had two double beds that were very comfortable. Each bedside had USB-A ports and a free outlet.
The seating area was a nice touch, but was not that comfortable.
In the room there was a further welcome amenity with sweets, a hand-written note, another bottle of premium water and an envelope with an invitation to a free cocktail in the American bar.
Location
The hotel is central, but it is not in the old town. There are plenty of stores and restaurants nearby, but you will have to walk about 15 minutes to see the tourist sites. This means that you will also have a slightly easier time finding parking. However, is unlikely you will find street parking. We parked nearby in a garage for about 22 EUR for one night.
Dining
We had the buffet breakfast and were quite satisfied. Perhaps the coffee was a bit too strong for our tastes. Otherwise they offer to order egg dishes and quite a wide range of breakfast foods, including juices and detox drinks.
There was a noticeably large number of staff members which allowed for attentive and speedy service.
We also used the voucher. It was nice that they actually gave us one cocktail each. They had some interesting cocktails on the menu. We both enjoyed the cocktails. The bar is very much classical or old-world in style which we found quite nice. It was however a bit louder than my tastes due to less than optimal room acoustics.
There is also a rooftop bar with expansive views of the city. We went up there, but it was full so we went elsewhere.
Gym
As others have mentioned, the gym is sparsely equipped. I felt more thought should have been put into it.
Overall
Overall we felt we got good value with this hotel. We would return here again if we come back to Bilbao.
