Stats

I recently stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Singapore.  This was opened only a week or so ago and represents possibly an affordable Hilton option in what is usually a very expensive city.

I was able to book this room for 10,000 Hilton Honors points although I understand it has since been re-categorised to 20,000 a night which is a shame as it was an absolute steal at the 10,000 level.

Check In

Check in was quick and efficient.  The girl behind the counter (I didn't catch her name) was extremely friendly and explained that as the hotel was still in low occupancy, she would upgrade me to a better room.

A deposit of 100 singapore dollars (around USD70) was taken and I was given the keys to my room.

As you can see it is reasonably sized, well appointed and has everything you need for a mid-level hotel stay.  Its obviously not going to compete with the likes of Conrad or Hilton in Singapore but at the price point you really cannot complain.

Dining

Breakfast the next morning was served in the lobby and consisted of a number of hot and cold items.  Again it will not compete with a five star offering but it was more than addequate to fill me up.

The coffee was surprisingly good for an HGI.

Location

This is perhaps the downside of the hotel.  Its location is in Little India which is not exactly "central".  If you're in Singapore for work it will be an added journey to get into the main city.

Overall

Overall this was surprisingly good.  In the end it comes down to price.

If you were able to get it for 10,000 points like I did then its an absolute bargain.  At 20,000 its still probably very good compared to the other options in Singapore (Conrad and Hilton) which are regularly double or more this amount.

At cash I'm not so sure.  Rates seem to average around the SGD140-160 level.  Given the Conrad and Hilton regularly offer rooms (albeit on sale) for SGD220~ I'd perhaps be tempted to pay the difference and have true 5* centrally located hotels.

However, if they are going for SGD400+ which they sometimes do then this is a great way to stay in the Hilton chain of properties.
