Check In

I took the S8 train from Frankfurt airport to Romisches Theatre stop and then walked for about 8 mins (all flat) to the hotel. The foyer is lovely and is a mix of old a new. The hotel appears to have been built round an old fort and they have encompassed it into the design very well.  Check in was very quick and friendly - I had been upgraded before arrival to a River View King because I am Explorist (I am assuming) and I was soon off to my room.

Room

My room had a magnificent view straight out over the water and the old tower. I couldn't have been happier.  The room is quite large, and while it does show its age a little, it had everything you would need. Two big bottles of water were provided, the bed was super comfy - maybe a little soft for some tastes but just right for me.

The bathroom was large and had a separate shower and bath, although at first glance it looked like just a hand held shower but there was a shower head in the ceiling next to the bath. The shower pressure and temperature were fine so while the setup was a little odd, it was all fine.  The aminities were the usual Hyatt Regency brand of Pharmacopia.  For the ladies *and gentlemen who use one) be aware of the hairdryer - probably the worst I have ever encountered in any hotel - even cheap hotels where they are attached to the wall. Absolutely useless and I had to give up frying my hair in the end.

Room was quiet and I slept well - temperature was adjustable - just - but I found it OK.

Service

Service was absolutely fabulous - in fact I dont think I have come across better in a long time. I had some issues with dinning (in next section) but they recovered it so well I actually couldn't complain! I got my COVID test printed out by reception despite it being a faff and on checkout I was asked if I had any issues and I felt they truely wanted to know - not just the usual ask but ignore you quite often get these days!

Dining

Dining is where I had the biggest issue - partly my fault but some the hotels. I tried to go to M-Bar for something to eat - they are only serving outside due to a lack of staff and I was told there would be a wait. I went to try Bellpepper and despite empty tables, close to closing, I was told no joy if I hadn't booked. He asked if I was a hotel guest - yes - and he started to try and find a spot but having looked at the menu I decided it was not for me so I went back to M-Bar.

I was told I could wait, I had a very nice glass of wine while waiting and then after about 20 mins was told the next table was mine - and it was a good one looking out to the river so I thought yes it has been worth the wait. Then another waitress sook another couple to it and I got a 'oh sorry I didnt realise you were waiting....'. This was recovered with a complimentary glass of wine so I thought OK no issues. I got a table (the worst as it was a high table) after another 15 mins of waiting. Food was delicious and the wine was topped up regularly. Then I tired to get the attention of the staff to pay the bill. I was actually waving my hands in the air to get their attention - and they were chatting at the bar - eventually I walked over.

When I explained that I thought it was a bit off, the head waiter immediately comped my entire bill to apologise. Apparently a lack of staff. Now I counted 13 tables and 4 staff - which is not a bad ratio for a restaurant that has a relaxed (dont rush you) vibe. However I accepted the comped meal happily and though they recovered it well - just a shame it took a significant of time ignoring me while standing at the bar to get to that!

Overall I would say book in advance - it the M-Bar is worth it and I would go back.

Location

The location is excellent - well within walking distance of all the 'sights' of which there are not many. My favourite was sitting on the benches watching the ships and aircraft go by - you can find yourself on the extended centre line to Frankfurt airport quite easily if that is your thing!

It is easy to get to from the airport - about 25 mins all being well and the trains are clean and air conditioned.

Overall

Overall this would normally have been a far less positive review after the issues I had at dinner HOWEVER - the staff are absolutely amazing and recovered it all nicely. Not just because I got a free meal, but because they genuinely wanted to try and make things better and knew it wasn't good enough. That is rare in hotels these days and why Iw old thoroughly recommend the hotel for anyone who has a bit of time at Frankfurt airport.
