In my experience, you get what you pay for in London and Grange City Hotel is no exception.

We travel to London three or four times a year and often stay at a Grange Hotel. Grange are a small chain with properties in and around London. Most of their hotels are small '4 star' properies. This trip we decided to try their larger '5 star' City Hotel near the Tower of London.

The Tower of London is directly across the street and Tower Bridge is just down the road.

Tower Hill tube, DLR and FenchurchStreet train stations are all adjacent to the hotel. Getting around on public transport is very easy. With this location we spentmore time on the tubes and less on busses or walking than we normally do. Wehit the daily cap on our Oyster Cards every day. (If you don't know about Oyster Card capping read this-->https://tfl.gov.uk/fares-and-payments/oyster/using-oyster/price-capping)

Room

We had an Executive Room on the 7th Floor. The slightly more expensive Executive rooms are unusually large for London. I'd call them "American Sized" There is a separate seating area with desk and a couch.

Our room was spotlessly clean and in good repair. Some of the furniture is just starting to show a little wear but over all is in excellent condition. Thefirm bed and felt like a new matress. It wasa euro-style king bed with two twinsfitted together and covered with a matress topper.

Our room did not have a view and over looked one of the platforms at the adjacent Fenchurch Street Station. Noise was not a problem. We could just barely hear the train announcements in the morning.

Rooms higher up on the other side have a view of the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. If you want a view be sure to ask for it. You may have to pay for it.

Check In

Fast and efficent. I would advise against pre-authorising a charge card.

Dining

Breakfast was included with our room rate.

The weekday breakfast was fine if nothing special. On Saturday the buffet was one grade lower. For example we had fresh fruit on Friday and canned fruit on Saturday. The Saturday breakfast was the one disappointment in an otherwise excellent stay.

If your room rate includes breakfast you may as well eat it, otherwise it is worth going somewhere else.

Gym

The Hotel has a full fitness centre and spa in the basement. The gym is one of the best we've seen in a hotel. There is a good range of fitness equipment and all of it worked.

I had a quick look at the pool and it looked good though the glass. If we go back, we will bring bathing suites.
