Stats

After long delays, including labor and financial issues, the Baha Mar project finally completed a couple of years ago.  It is a huge project and Grand Hyatt is the flagship of the project.  It ccupies the famed Nassau Cable Beach and offers thousands of guest rooms.

Bahamas is so close to USA.  It is just like visiting Florida.  Except its higher costs on food and other things.

Check In

We took a taxi from the airport.  GH has a large bell staff and we were taken care of.

At check-in, there is a separate line for World of Hyatt members.  But that line is longer than the regular line.  So I'm not sure if it is a good idea to stay in that line.  The hotel should have allocated more agents to take care of WoH guests first.

As WoH elite, we were upgraded to ocean view room.  I asked for a suite upgrade, but the hotel said it had to be pre-booked.

Room

Our room is an ocean view room on high floor.

Two queen beds:

The room has bad designs.  The bathroom sink area is very small.  The bath shower door opens to the outside and hits sink area.  Only one person can be at bathroom at one time.  There is little room to move around.  It is really a bad design.  There is also water damage on the bathroom.

The bed frame is supposed to sink into the foundation of the room floor.  But the frame does not all fit in.  So the bed frame is not level.  It is not a huge problem.  But guest can see that the bed is not level.

As a Grand Hyatt, I was somehow disappointed by the condition of the guest rooms.  This is not just one guest room, but the craftmanship of the entire hotel.  I just feel this hotel construction was rushed.

Pool

The resort has numerious pools.  All the pools are really nice and full of guests.  They are welll maintained and well staffed.  Free towels and lotion are provided and there are pool bars close to all the pools.

We had big fun at the diving pool.  Guests can jump into the deep part of the pool.  There is a huge aquarium behind the pool.

Beach

The Cable Beach is still there.  We did some swimming and snorkeling.  In the water, I could see quite some construction debris.  Again, the hotel construction has not been great.

I did not see much seaweed problem.  This is much better than the seawood problem in Cancun Mexico.

Amenities

GH Baha Mar is not only just a beach resort, it is also a large casino.  Guests can sure have some fun and open the wallets.

Concierge

There are a lot of activities at the hotel.  Definitely take the complimentary ferry to Balmoral Island.  The beach there is actually better than at the Cable Beach.

Service

The front desk staff was just doing their jobs, not super friendly.  They also refused to offer suite upgrade.

The pool staff was nice.  The entire staff at Grand club lounge was very friendly and helpful. They are probably the best bunch at the hotel.

Dining

The greatest part of the GH BM is its Grand Lounge.  It I think it is at GH standard that I've seen at other GH properties.  Guests get full breakfast and can probably skip dinner all together.  There is also beer, wine and hard drinks at evening time to 10PM.

Location

The hotel is closer to the airport than the Atlantis hotels.  It replaces the older and smaller hotels at Cable Beach.

Bahamas is just a short flight from US.  It is very accessible and there are plenty of flights going to Bahamas.

Overall

It is always nice to visit and spend time at new hotel properties.  GH Baha Mar is a great place for a beach vacation, particularly for young couples and families with kids.  The pools at the resort are great.  Guests spend most of the time at the pool.  Both adults and kids have good time there.  The beach is just fine if guests like the ocean water.

The best part of the stay is the Grand Lounge.  The food at Bahamas is really expensive since the trourist taxes are extremely high.  Government wants our money.  We enjoyed the food and drinks at the lounge.  The staff there is very friendly.

I have reservations of its guest rooms.  The bathroom has very bad design and I see it requires maintenance soon.

I think GH is a good place to visit from time to time.  But we do not see that we'll come back any time soon.  There are just so many other good places to visit.
