Check In

Greeted warmly at the check in counter, recognized as a valued Diamond member. Since I used a DSU for this stay, I was expecting a Grand Duplex Suite (they are found on the Executive floor). To my surprise, I was given a room that was not on the Executive Floor. I queried whether the room I was given was a Grand Duplex Suite. The reply was “Sir, this is the Grand Corporate Suite. It is definitely much better than the Grand Duplex Suite.”

Room

Oh yes, it is definitely a better suite! Unlike the Duplex Suite, it is only on 1 floor, but it feels more spacious, with a combined area of 108 sqm. There is a study, living, dining area with a fully functional kitchen (fridge, cooking area, microwave, conventional oven), bedroom with an ensuite bathroom that has a shower area that served as a steam room! The only downside of the rooms in general is that the ceiling was rather low.

Service

The Grand Club Lounge was one of the best lounges I have been. The evening cocktail was stuffed with a wide range of hot food, cheese and drinks. The staffs at the lounge were warm and went around each table, striking up a conversation and making sure everything was topped up.

Dining

I had mixed reviews about the breakfast at Straits Kitchen. They have a wide selection of food covering malay, indian and chinese cuisine, not forgetting the usual eggs, pastries and juices. I just found that the chinese kitchen was a little disappointing, some of the food were unspectacular and on the dry side. On the other hand, their indian selection was great! The odd thing about breakfast service was that you had to get your own coffee.

Location

Smack right at the heart of Orchard Road, its location cannot be beat. The MRT is just minutes away if you ever need to go out of town and there are so many food and shopping options nearby.

Pool

Although not the biggest pool in Singapore, it is nestled in a calm oasis, surrounded by lush greens, and nearby a waterfall. It also has a tennis court tucked away at the back of the property.
