Check In

After an hour drive from Orange County, we arrived at the property around 1:20 PM. The valet staff advised that parking is $43/day with in and out privilages. Approached the front desk to check in and was abruptly told that check in time was 3 PM. I advised the FD staff as a Platinum member of the loyalty program, I am entitled to early check in and late check out. the FD replied that it all depends on availabilty and asked for name, ID, and credit card. After typing my info into the computer, he said that our room on the 5th floor was ready. This is a 7 storey hotel and I asked him for a higher floor or the possibility of suite upgrade. The FD told me that they were fully booked and no suites were available. He assured me that our room is a renovated deluxe one. So, the ckeck-in experience was underwhelming!

Tiny elevator took us to the slightly dimmed 5th floor and to our room. The room was smallish and the bathroom was similarly small. Shower above tub with one sink vanity. Room was furnished with 2 double beds, club chair, desk and a seat, an air purifier, "mood setter", chest of drawers with HDTV on top, and upgraded plugs/lighting. Basically your run-of-the-mill hotel room furniture. Beds were very comfortable with new memory foam mattresses installed 2 months prior to our arrival. Water pressure in the shower was more than adequate for a refreshing cascade after a warm day at the pier. Toiletries and towels were replenished generously. We requested a mini-fridge and a microwave oven and they were delivered promptly. On a relatively low 5th floor, the view of the Golden Arches across the street is not attractive. Slight side view of the Ocean and the SM Mall in the opposite direction. Overall, the room is okay.

Bad impression at check in but was made up and more by the very responsive Duty Manager (name and contact info will be provided upon request via PM) who went above and beyond the call of duty. We were in town to celebrate our 11th anniversay and the manager sent us a tray of goodies to the room. Additionally, he offered half day bicycle rental for 4 to which I declined. Instead, I requested comped parking for both nights and he granted, a saving of $86 plus tax. Parking attendants offered prompt and friendly service.

Ideally located just across the street from the Santa Monica Pier, and adjacent to Santa Monica Place Mall, and the 3rd Street Promenade. Was given a helpful map upon arrival and manager suggested some places to eat, and some activities to partake in. 5-stars for the location.

Overall

Having booked just on Monday prior to this Labor holiday weekend, and was accommodated at a property that is fully or near-full capacity is in and of itself a 5-star gesture. Not to mention the location, this is coupled with the interaction with and responsiveness of the manager lead me to highly recommend this property.
