Overall
We enjoyed this hotel as a way to break up our trip back up the Keys on our way to Fort Myers. The hotel staff were friendly. The price was attractive. The pool was nice.
I suspect most of the guests are using it also as a stopover.
I would return here again if my travels take me to the Keys again.
Location
This hotel pops up when you search for Key West, but it really is more than an hour's drive from Key West. I would only use it as a Key West hotel if you do not find other options.
It is located directly on the main road through the keys next to a gas station and across the street from a seafood restaurant.
Everything else would require a car to drive to or a very long walk.
Check In
Check in was unproblematic. I was thanked for my ambassador status. The manager waived the 15 (?) USD daily parking charge for me.
I think the upgrade we received was simply to a higher floor.
Room
The shower/bath combination had good water pressure and worked fine. Everything felt recently renovated although I noticed some poor workmanship. For instance the controls for the shower shifted quite a bit along the wall.
I liked the wooden looking floors throughout the room. There were plenty of towels.
This Fairdfield had the best coffee machine we encountered.
There was a small table to sit at to eat and a small couch with table. I throught it was funny to have two tvs so close to each other.
As you might have realized, I really appreciate the multiple-use sustainable bottles.
Overall this hotel has a much better room on offer compared to the Fairfield in Key West. It really gave me more confidence in the brand potential.
Dining
The hotel's restaurant is currently closed. I am not sure if it is because of a lack of staff or it being off-season. The only option nearby is to cross the street to the seafood restaurant, which was quite good. I guess you could always get supplies from the gas station next door.
The breakfast is included in all rates and I understand it to be brand standard with plastic cutlery, lots of pre-packaged items and lots of trash being generated per guest. It is not to my liking, but it is the standard, based upon other hotels I visited on the same trip.
Pool
The pool was very popular. I saw lots of people there throughout the afternoon and well into the evening. It is not a deep pool but looked reasonable for getting a refreshing swim.
Overall you can see that the area nearby is quite scenic, with palm trees, a pool, channel and ocean all visible from the room. It is pretty much what I consider what i expect when I visit Florida.
