Extraordinary Hotel Elevated by an Excellent Staff.

My husband and I (along with 7 friends) spent 10 days at the Mauna Lani this past November. It was a perfect stay. The resort looked great after its reported 200 million dollar remodel. We all agreed we have never experienced the high level of service as we did at the Mauna Lani. Casual, attentive, personalized. The staff were exceptional with everyone greeting me by name after the second day. Nothing was too much and always with a genuine smile. The staff is a highlight here. The food was good. Breakfast ( served from an early hour of 6:30 AM on ) was my favorite meal. A wide variety of ala carte dishes that even after 10 days I was unable to experience it all. The morning wait staff were extraordinary. Warm, energetic, quick, and the perfect crew to start your day. We ate two meals at the Canoe House, considered one of the best restaurants on the island. Our first meal was exceptional. Great service , amazing food, beautiful ambiance. Our second meal was marred slightly by an overburdened waiter who had trouble accommodating the nine of us in a timely manner. In ten days it was the only disappointment we experienced. We spent most of our days at the pool which was comfortable, well-attended, and overseen by an excellent manager and staff. The beach was beautiful, clean, and also well serviced. ( Igloos of ice water at each lounger was a lovely touch). The resort takes pride in its long Hawaiian history and there is much to learn and experience. Lots of activities are offered and many of our group went on adventures; but I never left the pool or beach. I had the pleasure of meeting ( twice) the resort’s GM. He was so gracious and instantly you could tell why this resort was so special. It starts at the top and the staff seem happy and truly enjoy their work. I cannot emphasize enough how important the staff are to this resort. It’s a beautiful place elevated to the highest level by wonderful people.

As mentioned in my general review..... the staff here is what makes this resort. ( The location, facilities  and weather is not that bad either) . From management to maintainence staff, everyone is friendly, helpful, and always smiling. I met and spoke to the GM of the property and I could instantly tell why the resort just hums so well. The GM is genuine and caring....he values his staff. That level of care shows from the top down.

 The food can be very good. It also can be a bit hit and miss but there are numerous venues to eat and relax.( looking out across the grounds from breakfast) Be forewarned .... it is expensive. A $40 per person breakfast allowance helped....but we often went over that with just a simple ala carte meal. The well established and noted Canoe House was outstanding one night and frustrating another. ( An overwhelmed wait person could not keep up and dishes were forgotten and service was sporadic.) Overall...we were happy with food. We only ventured offsite one night for dinner.
