King Suite Capitol View

I had 3 stays over March and April 2017 at the beautiful Renaissance Providence hotel. This hotel reminds me more of a JW Marriott than a Renaissance--and it is unquestionably the nicest Renaissance property I've thus seen. (Admittedly, I am a SPG stalwart, so the Marriott portfolio is newer to me.)

For all stays, I was given a King Suite with a Capitol View. Twice I was in room 326, and once I was in 426. The suites on both floors are identical.

The lobby:

The hotel really is beautifully designed. A very impressive Renaissance in a very impressive former Masonic temple building.

Check In

Check in was quick and efficient, and also very friendly--for all of my visits.

Last year, I had a stay here where their key card readers weren't functioning and the front desk attendant literally walked me to my room...and then brought me a key an hour or so later. I was impressed with how smoothly they handled the problem.  But no issues this year!

Room

My King Suite was very spacious and extremely comfortable:

You enter into the spacious living room:

A small bar/coffee maker area:

The entry to the bedroom is also adjacent to one entrance doorway into the bathroom. The exit to the bathroom opens to the other side of the bedroom. A very nifty layout, I think.

The bathroom:

It is a little surprising that the toilet isn't compartmentalized into its own room, what with all the space available:

The very spacious corner bedroom (you can see the other entrance to the bathroom, toilet side, on the far left of the bedroom):

View of the State Capitol at night from the living room or bedroom:

Snowy view the last morning of my first stay:

Air conditioning worked very well in both the bedroom and living room--though I did need to ask for someone to turn off the motion sensor so that the air con would run continuously. I only had to ask for my first stay, however--as they preset it again for me on both return stays.

Service

Service was outstanding.

Check in was always an easy and friendly affair.

On my first stay, the air con would turn off when I left the room. I called and someone from maintenace fixed that within the first hour. They made sure that was preset for all of my return stays in the same suites, too. Very impressive.

Room service was wonderfully prompt. Bar service was also extremely friendly and prompt.

Overall, excellent service. I love this hotel!

Dining

I never ate a meal at the restaurant, but I did usually order room service breakfast. It was always promptly delivered and quite yummy.

Location

The location is outstanding. Adjacent to the hotel is the Providence Mail, with tons of restaurants in easy proximithy both inside the mail and outside along the street. It was a mere 5 minute drive to the Brown University campus where I had business. It's just a 20 minute drive to the Providence Airport, as well.

Overall

I have been extremely impressed with this hotel since my first stay 2 years ago. It reminds me more of a JW Marriott luxury hotel than a mere Renaissance. Regardless, the service and amenities here are much nicer than those in the Omni on the other side of the Providence Mall. (I used to stay at the Omni, which was also the Westin beforehand. But the Omni service was atrocious.)

The Renaissance is my go-to hotel whenever I am in Providence now.
