We had a pleasant stay at this property. It is no surprise that the hotel has good ratings on TripAdvisor.
Room
We were there for 5 nights on a points redemption and were upgraded to a nice suite. Looking at the plan on my floor, there were 21 standard rooms of the same size and 4 suites (2 at each end). The suites are a bit more than double the size of a standard room if the floor plan is correct. If all floors are similar, then having 4 suites for each 25 rooms it is obvious that chances of a suite upgrades for Platinums at this property are quite good. Our room had a TV on the bedroom side and another TV on the living room side as you can see from the pictures. The living room side also has a DVD player. The bathroom has a large bath tub in addition to a separate bathroom. Overall the room was quite modern and clean.
There was a nice gift waiting for us in the room after check-in.
Dining
During week days, the Club Lounge was very quiet and we had the place almost to ourselves, both for breakfast and in the evening. I was wondering why there was even a second floor! On weekends it was more crowded. Not enough for people to go sit upstairs, but downstairs was getting close to full.
I found the breakfast in the lounge to be quite good. There is obviously more choice in the restaurant, but it was quite packed and tables very close to each other, similar to a European restaurant. Not much privacy as someone is sitting right next to you. The choice was good enough in the lounge and much more quiet so we had breakfast in the lounge every morning except one. Interestingly, the lounge has very large pastries while the restaurant has the regular-size versions.
In the evening, the canapes were ok but nothing to write home about. It was below average for Asian standards in a lounge, but better than North America for sure. The drinks were good, including a choice of Prosecco or Champagne.
Afternoon tea in the lounge consists of fruits and a choice between three desserts.
Location
The location is very good. The hotel is walking distance from the old town and various temples, and also close to China Town. The hotel is quite close to the airport and taxi was 150 THB each way, plus tip.
Overall
One strange feature of our room was the frequent cracking we could hear near the windows, either when the temperature was getting warming during the day, or when temperature was getting cooler. I am not sure if there is a problem with the materials they used for construction.
Overall we were pleased and we will return on our next trip to Chiang Mai as Platinums are treated well.
