Room 2016
- Stats
I stayed one night in this property in October 2016 as a diamond member.
Check In
The gentleman who checked me in was great - it was clear that he truly enjoyed his job and was proud of the property. Yet he was not too overly talkative so as to be inefficient. He provided me with the two waters and breakfast voucher, and got me signed up for the airport shuttle the next morning.
The hotel has 22 floors. The top few floors are designated as "HHonors floors" and next to each room number, "HHonors room." There was no separate keying of these floors. I was placed on the 20th floor in a king bedroom as I had reserved. I didn't see suites or other "special" rooms available for sale in the app, so while the word "upgrade" was never used, I was satisfied with the room assigned.
He also gave me 2 cookies. :)
Room
The room was a bit dated, but clean and in good repair. It had a desk with a chair and a flat screen TV. The bathroom had a tub/shower combination.
This room (and it appeared, all rooms) had a balcony with a sliding glass door. The even numbered rooms face the highway and airport.
The sliding glass door was not very soundproof at all, so there was definite road noise (not plane noise though). I'm not sure what the other side of the hotel faced, so I can't comment whether the odd rooms would be any quieter if you are a very light sleeper.
Dining
Diamond breakfast was in the restaurant and was a full buffet.
Hot items were the typical: scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, and two types of breakfast potatoes. There was also an omelette station with a live chef making omelettes or made-to-order eggs. This was included in the cost of the buffet (although there was a tip jar).
Overall the service was friendly and I was satisfied with the quality of the food and breadth of selections.
Location
I found the location to be convenient and I didn't feel too scared walking around at night. It was a half mile walk to restaurants in Little Italy. The gaslamp neighborhood would be a half mile walk in the other direction. If you want to feel like you're right in the middle of downtown you might choose another property, but if you're looking for a "home base" from which you can conveniently access the airport or other parts of the city, this property is fine.
Also, this hotel is about 15 minutes from the airport, and it has a free shuttle.
Overall
My stay was one night, in anticipation of catching a flight out the next morning. I was able to enjoy a last night in the city, get a good night sleep, have a solid and free breakfast, and catch an airport shuttle. For this purpose, this hotel worked great.
