Recently had a visit to Okinawa after the New Year rush and decided to try out the DoubleTree in Naha.
Check In
Check in was quick and efficient. Gold status recognized and "upgraded" (It's a DoubleTree so I don't expect anything to begin with) to the highest floor. Also was informed that breakfast buffet was included since I was a Gold member (a Gold VIP sticker was attached to my check in card).
Also since there's no executive lounge, I was given a free drink certificate that could be used at the hotel restaurant (softdrinks, wine, beer ok).
Also a warm Double Tree cookie was given. In the lobby they even had a cookie mascot if you wanted to take a photo with (no one was inside the mascot).
Room
As I mentioned I was "upgraded" to the highest floor, since it is my first time staying at this propertly I cannot compare to the regular rooms, but it was a little larger than a standard Japanese style business hotel and had a really nice massage chair (wish I had one at my home).
When I got to the work table in my room there was a nice card with my name and a welcome message along with some Okinawa candies. A nice touch, the only other time I got a card and gift in the room was at the Millenium Hilton Seoul.
Nothing special but a notch up from your standard Japanese business / city hotel.
The only thing I didn't like was no bottled water included. After eating the cookie I really needed something to drink. Thankfully I had the free drink certificate I used at the hotel restaurant.
Dining
The has no executive lounge so the morning buffet style breakfast is held in the hotel's restaurant in the front lobby.
The food was your standard buffet style (Japanese style scrambled eggs, sausages, salads, and some Japaese options, soups, congee) and regular juices. Nothing spectacular.
But I did like that they separated the eating area, one area was for general hotel guests and the other area was specifically set aside for Gold/Diamond members and somesort of special JTB guests (just show your check in card and sticker to the receptionist).
Location
The best part of choosing this hotel over anything else is it's location.
It is located across the street from the Asahibashi monorail station. The Naha Bus terminal (which is currently under renovations/rebuilding) is across the street on the other side of the monorail station. I had no problem catching the bus up to Churaumi Aquarium (about 2.3 hr bus ride).
If you take a taxi from Naha airport, it would only be about 1000 or so yen.
You can also walk to Kokusai Dori in about 10 minutes.
(view from my window, you can see the monorail line that runs and stops next to the hotel)
I understand Double Tree recently opened a second hotel near Shuri castle, though I'd recommend this location due to it's more centralized location in Naha, but it depends on what you plan to do.
Photo from near the monorail station.
Overall
Overall I'm happy with the hotel and the treatment I got there. The rooms are a notch up from your standard Japanese business style rooms, but nothing spectacular. it's location is great and if you must stay in in Naha and get Hilton points, then I recommend this hotel.
