Check In

I checked in on-line using Hilton's App and had picked a room on the 3rd floor.  When I got to the hotel there was only one couple of front of me and I was quickly seen by a pleasant and welcoming receptionist who thanked me for being a HHonours Diamond and told me that I had been upgraded from a Queen Guest Room to a Queen Deluxe Room on the HHonours 7th floor.  I was also told that as a Diamond I was entitled to 20% off in the hotel restaurant and I was given a warm chocolate and nut cookie.

Room

The hotel has a couple of HHonours only floors, which is an interesting touch (although I'm not sure I like it).  The room was a decent size and overlooked Victoria Station's concourse.  I was a little worried about noise but actually I only heard the trains once.  There was a little more noise from the corridor but nothing too bad.

The room has a decent queen-sized bed with a firm mattress and decent plumped pillows.  The room comes with 2 bottles of complimentary water, a robe and slippers and there was a small bag of sweets, which I appreciated.

The bathroom is fine - a toilet, sink and a large walk in shower.  There were small bottles of body lotion, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel and the towels were a decent size for me (although if you're more than 5' 6" you may find them a little small).

There's a 37" TV opposite the bed with a decent range of Freeview channels.  There's also a kettle with instant coffee, tea bags and biscuits, a mini fridge and the room comes with a hair dryer. There's a good sized desk  with handy plug sockets for keeping your laptop charged but the room doesn't have any plug sockets next to the bed, which is annoying if you want to use your phone as an alarm.

All in all I found it perfectly comfortable for my stay.

Service

Service was generally very good.  Staff were polite and helpful and genuinely seemed to care.  The only duff note was on the day of checkout. I had one of those freak occurences where the fuse went on the plug sockets in my room.  I didn't realise anything was wrong until I tried to use the hairdryer and it wasn't working and initially (and mistakenly) though that the hairdryer had broken.

Housekeeping was quick to bring me up a replacement but as the lady handed it to me, she made a big point of telling me that check-out was at mid-day and asking me when I would be leaving.  Given that it wasn't yet 11.30am, that left a bit of an unwelcome taste in the mouth.

When I then discovered that th eissue was with the plug sockets, I got a polite apology from maintenance who sent someone to quickly reset the fuse box.

Dining

The room rate included complimentary breakfast.  There was an okay mix of English cooked and continental breakfast foods.  I particularly liked the bacon, which was well cooked but I wish they'd had fried eggs in addition to scrambled eggs.  I went down to breakfast during a busy period but staff were working hard to clear tables and bring tea and coffee - although they were obviously stressed they remained polite.

Location

The main reason I chose the hotel was its location.  It's 5 minutes walk from Victoria station and handy for anyone who wants to see Wicked or Hamilton and it's another 15 minutes walk from Westminster so it's handy for sightseeing.

The area wasn't great at night - the train station attracts a lot of homeless people - but I never felt unsafe walking back late on my own.

Overall

With the exception of the overkeen housekeeping staff, I had a pleasant stay here and would definitely visit again if I needed to be in the area.
