A review of a recent stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Check In

Photos of the lobby:

On arrival, we were escorted to the Executive Lounge for check-in. The check-in experience in the Executive Lounge was efficient and professional. We were given the usual DoubleTree welcome chocolate cookie.

As a Hilton HHonors Diamond member, I was offered an upgrade to suite. However, as we preferred having two twin beds, and the hotel only has suites with king beds, we opted for an Executive room with two twin beds.

Room

We stayed in an Executive room on the top floor (34th floor – same floor as the Executive Lounge).

The room was clean and comfortable. View from the room:

Some photos of the room:

We were given 2 extra bottles of water during the room refresh service.

Later that evening, a welcome platter of fruit and kuih (local sweet snacks) was delivered to our room.

Wi-fi signal strength and connection speed were good.

Executive Lounge

The Executive Lounge is situated on the top floor (34th floor). The staff in the Executive Lounge were generally very friendly.

Daytime views from the lounge:

Business centre (2PCs and 1 laser printer available):

There was a good range of food and beverages available at Happy Hour from 5:30pm to 7:30pm (during this period, the lounge was packed):

There was more than enough food for the Happy Hour buffet to be a substitute for dinner.

Night-time view of the Petronas Twin Towers (and hotel logo!) from the balcony:

Another photo of the lounge seating area:

There was a decent selection of food and drinks available at the breakfast buffet in the lounge, including kuih:

Breakfast at Makan Kitchen

Makan Kitchen is situated on the 11th floor. It was packed when we went there for the buffet breakfast (if you prefer a quieter environment, the Executive Lounge would be better, although the breakfast buffet there is more limited compared to Makan Kitchen).

There was a good selection of Chinese, Indian, Malaysian and Western breakfast options.

Parathas made to order:

Malaysian and Western breakfast buffet:

Chinese breakfast buffet (situated in a separate section – turn right after entering Makan Kitchen):

Facilities

We used the outdoor swimming pool situated on the 10th floor, which was of a decent size. There is also a gym located next to the entrance to the pool.

Location

The hotel is very conveniently located (just a few minutes’ walk from Ampang Park LRT station). The hotel also runs a free shuttle bus for hotel guests (maximum capacity 10 people per ride) to the Petronas Twin Towers and a number of other locations in the city centre (frequency roughly of 1 bus per hour).

Overall

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Kuala Lumpur. The service was, in general, very friendly, facilities were good and our room was comfortable.
