Check In

Check was good although the decor leaves a lot to be desired.  I know the hotel is undergoing renovations but this really was like checking into a rental car location in the back of beyond!  However it was quick and the guy checking me in was really friendly - in fact I got the feeling he was trying to beat some check-in record and he talked so fast and got me off to my room in double quick time!

Room

The room was fabulous.  I had booked a basic King and was upgraded on the morning to a King Premier with View.  The room was very well decorated and the bed super comfy - the view was not really much but was on the 7th floor across roof tops - nice enough but not quite what I would call 'room with view' on the selling material!

I had read up on asking for the Shanghai Tang amenities and they were waiting for me, along with the normal ones when I got to my room - thanks guys for that top tip!

I also had a little plate of macaroons and some water along with a generic welcome note.  All very nice.

The bathroom was awesome - in fact one of my favourite bathrooms of my travels and I have seen some impressive ones.  It was not the most impressive but it had everything in the right place and of high quality  - the shower was great, the mirror was steam free and very flattering, and the towels lovely and soft.

I slept well and the room temperature was easy to control.   Overall a really great room.

Service

I think this was a little hit and miss - the check in chap was trying too hard, the bar tender was super friendly and trying to help and the waiter in the bar was just aloof and I felt looked down his nose.  I asked if they had any nibbles and he sniffed that he could probably rustle some up for someone who looked hungry - I just wanted some mixed nuts!

Dining

Menu in the dinning room looked good but I never ate there.

Breakfast was where this place was let down.  Diamond and Gold members get sent to a different room for their continental breakfast option.  Now I have no problem asking me to pay for cooked breakfast and in the room I was given a menu.  But I really do expect the continental part to be worth getting up for - there was some bread (no toaster), muffins, pastry thingys and some cheese and cold meats/salmon.  NO cereal and eventually I asked if they would be willing to toast my bread and they agreed.  The fruit juices are nice and fresh but the spread really was disappointing for the hotel.

Location

Although slightly off the main drag, it is well positioned to get to and from the airport.  Both the Aircoach and Airlink buses stop very close by.  And actually being away from the rowdiness may not be a bad thing!

Overall

Overall I liked the hotel a lot - the decor was great - the room was great but I also thought they skimped on a few things - like breakfast and the check-in area during renovations.  A lick of paint on the fake wall is all I am asking!

If I can, I will attach pictures to this review later when I return from my travels!
