Check In

Prompt and efficient.  Reception offered the SPG gold gift option and asked if I had any questions or requests for my stay.  About an hour after settling into my room, a delivery came of a 350ml bottle of merlot and some cashews along with a handwritten note indicating they saw in my profile that I like red wine, so this was their welcome gesture.  Very nice touch!

 

Room

Comfortable Sheraton Sweet sleeper bed, small bathroom.  Door must be closed to use the toilet.  Coffee machine with tea and coffee packets was useful.  TV had a good selection of HD channels.  Not enough power outlets in the room or on the desk, though.

Service

Opted for Green Choice, so I have no housekeeping service review to give, but the staff in general were friendly.  I took advantage of the on demand shuttle service to the metro, which is walkable but in the morning it's nice to have a lift to get a jump on the day.  My return one night had me waiting almost 30 minutes at the metro for the shuttle after calling.  When I called about this, they apologized and told me to take a cab and they would pay the driver.  That was a nice way to right a wrong situation.

The club level is 14, and I was assigned room on 10.  I didn't inquire about any kind of SPG Gold upgrade or lounge access, though usually Sheratons I stay at tend to give me a club level room or access to the lounge if I'm not on that level.  I tried my card in the lounge door for breakfast on my first morning and it worked, so it appears the front desk reception coded my card for it, but didn't tell me.

Location

Location is in downtown Silver Spring, just 2 blocks from the center of town. It's not a bad location to be in if you have busines in the area.  The on demand shuttle will take you and pick you up from within 3 miles of the hotel, too.

Overall

The property is slightly dated on the exterior, but the common areas are new and the rooms look to have some upgraded amenities but not fully up to date with business traveler needs like available outlets.  I would stay here again, however, because I did find the staff to be welcoming and friendly, and made several gestures to show that they wanted me to have a good stay with them.
