Grand Teton Suite

Got home two days ago from a 4 night stay at Amangani (Dec 26-30).

Room

Stayed in the Grand Teton Suite. It's a beautifully designed room that compliments the location of the hotel but truth be told I didn't spend much time admiring the room as I was transfixed on the view. Amangani is quite elevated and the view from the balcony was stunning. No complaints about the room, it was spacious and well designed. The decor is perfect for the 'western' feel the hotel wants.

Service

Service was good, but not at the level of the top-tier properties. We met Stuart (GM) at arrival and saw him briefly the morning of the 29th, but otherwise didn't see him. Staff were very helpful and friendly, but most didn't know our names and had to ask. I didn't make use of the spa (I should have after day 2 of skiing) but my fiancé said it was wonderfully relaxing (which isn't exactly helpful in comparing it to other Aman spas but I digress). The view from the pool was stunning so I was more than happy to spend time at the edge taking in the sights. I was brought a hot drink poolside which was much appreciated.

Ski

Skied at Jackson Hole on the 27th and 28th. I'm a huge Jackson Hole fan, so it was amazing. It's my preferred mountain in the US (over Vail, Park City, Deer Valley, Aspen, Telluride, Breck) and I'm always excited to be back. In all honesty, I can't see myself returning to Amangani next time I'm in Jackson for skiing. The location of the Four Seasons trumps the 25 minute drive from Amangani to the lifts, even though Amangani is a nicer property.

Activities

We spent the 29th seeing the National Elk Refuge and exploring the town of Jackson. We took a sleigh ride through herds of elk which was lots of fun and something I highly recommend. Aman staff were helpful in pointing us to interesting things to see in Jackson (on foot) and getting us to the Elk Refuge.

Dining

After hearing lots about Wild Sage, we decided to go for dinner and I can say it definitely lived up to expectations. Very down-to-earth hearty American fare and a meal that I'd consider just below the level of The Restaurant at Meadowood or The French Laundry. Impressive wine list, too. Jackson, WY sure has a winner on its hands. We also enjoyed The Granary (especially their Wild Game Tartare). Solid food and a great view is a winning combination.

Overall

While Amangani sits lower on my list of Aman properties, I still really enjoyed my stay. I can't see myself ever returning for skiing (in favour of the FS), but would look into returning for the summer as I'm sure the experience would be a complete 180.
