Following a hard slog of a week working in Dubai, I headed to Bahrain to meet a Saudi-based friend for a catch-up. I was arriving on a Thursday evening and departed late on a Friday night.

It cost me less than 4.5BHD in a taxi from the airport to the hotel (metered), but I rounded up to 5BHD. I had read reports of foreigners being ripped off in taxis, however as a solo female traveler I had no such issues. You will have to take a taxi though - there were no other public transport options (that I could work out, anyway)!

Check In

As you would expect, the staff at reception were polite and charming, and informed me that even my lowly Gold status entitled me to a room upgrade. I had paid an advance rate for a standard room but was given a Deluxe room. More about that later. As the gentleman at reception checked me in, I was brought a glass of fruit juice. One of the porters / doormen then carried my bags to the room (no elevators, just a couple of flights of stairs to my room on the 3rd floor), and he refused a tip. He also gave me a couple of pointers about the hotel - directions to the pool / fitness suite, a clarification that it is a mixed sex area so I should feel free to visit whenever I want, plus a reminder that if I wanted to book for their Friday brunch, I should do so ASAP (I didn't, but from what I saw the following day, it looked impressive if you're into heavy drinking / eating in the early afternoon).

Room

As previously noted, I was upgraded to a Deluxe room, which was lovely. The room was spacious with a king bed, sofa / seating area, large desk / work-space, and a comfy desk chair for working. The room also came with aromatherapy sprays to aide sleep.

The bathroom was also spacious, though with just the one sink. Not a problem given I was a solo traveler! The shower was a waterfall shower, which was perfect. There was no bath tub, which was a slight disappointment, but only if I was really looking for reason to complain.

Service

The service really was something else at the hotel. They even provided transport to the airport free of charge when I left. They also allowed me to use the WiFi free of charge as I waited for several hours in the reception area until my flight late at night. Everyone was so polite and made me feel very welcome.

Overall

The hotel also boasts a swimming pool, spa and 24hr fitness centre which I didn't get the chance to check out.

On Fridays, the brunch does seem to make the hotel party central, but up until that point, and after it finished at 4pm, it was tranquil and as business-like as you would expect from a CP hotel.

I would highly recommend the CP Manama for a short or long stay. While the location wasn't the best, I think that goes for most things in Manama. You basically need your own transport, or you need to spend on taxis (which are inexpensive). The service at this hotel is genuinely excellent, the rooms are high quality, and you have your usual CP entertainment in the Harvester Bar. All in all it was a wonderful but short stay, and I'd have no issues recommending the hotel to others visiting Bahrain.
