Selecting a hotel in Chiang Mai can be difficult to navigate. Whether it be inside or out of the Old City, there are many very affordable (cheap) options ranging from hostels to hotels.  While reviewing the options in the mid to upper range, there are limited choices with the luxury brands being extremely expensive.   The Le Meridien Chiang Mai is a most likely the best place to stay in the City.  The location is excellent for walking, tuk tuk or taxi but once you step inside the doors you can expect an beautiful stay. In fact, I venture to say this was in my top 10 of stays at SPG properties worldwide.

At arrival, my SPG Platinum was very well recognized.  We enjoyed an Executive Suite, althought it had weird smell, it was beautifully decorated and very comfortable for relaxing.   The bathroom was spacious, cleanly designed and perfect for two people.  I loved the bathroom.

The staff at the Le Meridien provided  attentive and pleasing service with easy interactions in English. The bar service (thanks Jet) was wonderful, so much so that we stopped by every day.  We spoiled ourselves at the spa that has extravagant treat rooms.  The pool is also very nice with drink and lunch service.

Overall, this stay is what I would expect from a Le Meridien hotel, but a step above.  My only constructive criticism is address the smell in the room (maybe it was just our room) and increase the air conditioning in the hall ways.

Novice Note: Uber is available and we had good luck with drivers.  Take a taxi from the airport to the hotel.  Try a Thai cooking school, we did Siam Rice Cooking School. The shopping is great in Chiang Mai.  The views from the Wat Phra That Doi Suthep temples are amazing.

Adventure Traveler Take In:  See a Muay Thai fight, even if it isn’t a real one, it is SO much fun.  Instead of betting money, try betting shots with the bar tender.  Check our Zoe in Yello and Sound Up Be aware that the bars and clubs close early (midnight normally).  There are places to go later into the night, but you got to ask the locals.
