I booked the Grand Executive Suite initially for a four night stay that got reduced to two as we decided to have a Greek Islands sojourn during our European tour.
I was in communication the the hotel GM Jan who I asked to please allocate a high floor suite with good view and turn off the Marble floor heating because we like cool hotel rooms.
He responded personally to each request which signifies the level of service at this GH.
Check In
Due to LH delays we arrived after midnight. The check in agent could see we were tired, processed our check in quickly and we made our way to the room.
Room
We were allocated the Max Reinhardt Suite. I didn't expect to have great views, because the lower category Suites have them specifically in the description, but as we walked in we looked down a large corridor to find views of Potsdamer Platz in both directions and from both the living and Bedroom we could see the nearby Kirche and the Victory Column.
The room is enourmous with a dining table for 4, a living room for 5, a large marble bathroom, half bathroom and bedroom. The shower was also a Hamam which would have been delightful it it was colder.
The room is elegantly furnished and there are fresh flowers in every room - a small touch with a huge impact.
We had quite a large welcome amenity of Chocolates, Fruits and snacks. The mini bar was complimentary including artisanal soft drinks, some beer and Cider (I think)? On the bar were three decanters of Whiskey, Vodka and Gin that were also complimentary. I have only ever seen this once in all my travels at the FS Hoi An.
Being able top open the windows fully is impressive, especially post Covid. After long travels you can crave fresh air and during the day we had all of the windows open in the suite.
Service
Because of our late arrival, we haven't interacted with many staff, however the Breakfast waiters are responsive and always checking on whether they can get you more coffees. In fact, they remembered our orders on both days.
I used the Hyatt app while we were out to request an Ice Bucket and Sparkling Water and it was delivered within ten minutes.
The mini bar was offered to be refilled the next day and I fotgot to ask for more Cola. I asked the attendant who has just left and when he asked what else I wanted he took the initiative to deliver a Grand Hyatt bag with several of the other drinks. That is how you anticpate and respond to a guest's neeeds.
Dining
Breakfast is good quality, including the Eggs Benedict.
The Club Lounge is quite large, featured several Pizzas, a hot Soup, Salads, Good quality Cheeses and desserts. They serve Champagne, Red Wine, White Wine and Beer. I asked the young man if they had spirits (the HR DUS did not) and then he delivered two very large Vodkas and Sprite. Those of us in Australia forget other countries free pour! He ensured our glasses were always topped up and our plates cleared as soon as we finished them.
I tend to lower my expectations for European Club Lounges as we are spoilt in Australiasia, but this was, perhaps, the best we have had in Europe across any chain.
Overall
Overall, the GH BER was a great stay. I normally stay at Park Hyatt or Unbound brands in the Hyatt chain and this stay exceeded my expectations.
Despite being a Grand, it never felt busy, the service was very good, the staff delightful and the room was a perfect sized residence.
I will definitely return in future.
