I had the pleasure to go back again to Beirut and Sofitel Beirut Le Gabriel one month after my 1st stay. It was again for a 3 nights stay. I booked again the transportation to/from airport, with billing to my room, and all worked OK. Beware of very heavy traffic in Beirut. When returning to the airport, it's better to play it safe.

Unfortunately, weather was not as good as last month, as you can see from the picture below just before landing in BEY. Sorry for the wrong orientation of pictures, but FT has still not be able to sort this out...

Check In

Staff recognized me from my 1st stay a month ago and they were of course happy to see me back so soon. This time I had booked the category I was upgraded to last time (luxury king with balcony) as an upgrade would bring me to a junior suite. I was not optimistic at all for the upgrade as the hotel was showing fully booked for the duration of my stay (and it was). But, and this how you distinguish good from bad hotels, despite the hotel being full, I was upgraded to a nice junior suite. Drink voucher was given and, as said in my 1st review, is valid for everything including Champagne.

Room

The living room part had an Espresso machine with the mini bar, a table (which serves as a desk also) and a section with sofa, armchair and TV. The welcome amenity was the same fruit and cake plate as last time. A bit minimal, but at least it’s healthy ;-).

Bedroom part was large with the usual comfy MyBed. Plenty of place to store your belongings. Bathroom was larger than the one of my 1st stay and included a separate shower.

Turndown service was done every evening (quite early, around 6 pm), with chocolates placed on the pillows.

The suite was facing the rear side of the building (so not facing the street) and it was much quieter (no noise from the street at all). So I would definitely recommend to ask for a room facing the rear side of the buiding.

Dining

I had several meals at the hotel restaurant, including a room service, and I confirm what I said in my 1st review : food is very good there. But IMO, not enough Lebanese specialties on the menu, which is a "shame" as I like the Lebanese cuisine. As I said in my 1st review, there are plenty of excellent restaurants (mostly Lebanese and French, but also others) walking distance.

Overall

A second very pleasant stay and they treat their Platinum members well. Definitely an hotel I recommend. At the moment, this is the only Accor hotel in Beirut. If they are successful buying Mövenpick, there is a Mövenpick resort well situated on the corniche (Avenue du Général de Gaulle) directly on the sea, so may be more options in Beirut soon !
