Check In

They have renovated the lobby area from what I have seen. The checkin area is very new and modern, with numerous desks to help people check in. The service was very quick and professional. I was checking in as part of a conference that was staying at this hotel and so there were numerous guests coming in all the same time. It took no more than 5 minutes for them to get me sorted.

Room

IMG_1611.jpgIMG_1612.jpgI was upgraded from a Deluxe Room to a Club Room. The room size was big, but nothing special to be considering an upgrade except perhaps the floor was higher up. The room looked like the Deluxe from the photo.

The rooms are quite dated. There is no electric do not disturb or make up my room buttons. You have to hang something on the door. What I did like is they had something on the door handle to ensure the thing stayed there. A lot of hotels you put it on and it just falls off, so kudos for that. The carpet is old, but quite comfortable. Inside the room the furnishings and decor are also old.

The bed was comfortable, and what I would expect from a Marriott hotel. The typical soft feather pillows were there, and they did add more as per my request.

The bathroom felt very cramped and small. It had a bathtub instead of the typical standup shower stall in more modern hotels. The water pressure was average, but the water was soft, so this was a plus, as soft water in China means the building is doing the treatment theirselves.

There was no place to plug a phone to charge near the bed. They had a clock with USB which said "Charging" - it would not charge my phone when I tried to use those USB slots, so I ended up unplugging the clock and putting my phone charger in that socket.

There was switches for lights only on one side of the bed, and the two bedside lamps were only connected to the master on/off switch.

The room's location was in a good spot and for the most part the room was quiet.

Service

The service was quite good at this hotel. I have found it hit and miss in China whether I get good service at hotel properties. I loved my arrival, and the service in the lounge was great.

Location

The location is a bit away from things from walking, but with taxi or car, it is a great.

Lounge

Lounge was new and quite good. The offerings were better than I expected. I attended the lounge twice for breakfast and happy hour. Despite a conference being held, it wasn't overly packed during breakfast or happy hour. I was always able to get a seat. The staff was very attentive and helpful.IMG_1630.jpgIMG_1631.jpg

Overall

Overall wouldn't be my first choice for staying in Shanghai, but it was the best of the hotels for my conference, and I am glad I picked it for my two day stay.
