Advice on how to proceed: someone else in my room

Hello FT,

I had a rather unfortunate hotel experience this past weekend. It is clearly well beyond the bounds of acceptable...and as such I find myself in strange territory and don't know how to proceed. All advice is appreciated.

I booked 10/13-10/15 in the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Chico (bleh).

I arrived to the hotel at 10PM and checked in with attendant O. I stepped into the room (did not leave anything) then went to dinner. At approx 11:30pm I returned to the hotel and went to my room where I noticed:
1) My keys didn't work on the door anymore
2) A "do not disturb" sign had been placed on the door handle.

Sigh...I went to the front desk. I talked to the supervisor M who kept asking me to confirm that I had not let anyone into the room nor did I have friends visiting.

He called the room to confirm that someone was in the room. He then talked with his staff and found that Attendant V. had recently checked someone into my room (344). The unwelcomed guest had booked room 334. They pulled the paperwork to confirm that I was actually booked into 344 (and it was confirmed).

They tried to put me into his room, but 334 and 344 weren't similar rooms...eventually they found a place for me. It was nearly 1am at the time and even though I knew this was really unacceptable, I didn't press it at the time.

I asked if we could file a report, and the response was . "It was a miscommunication problem and we fixed it." I was very not impressed with that response.

Overall, I feel like the front desk made the biggest mistake you can make while running a hotel, but at the same time did not acknowledge any issue. I am happy that I did not leave anything in my room at the time and that I, in general, am paranoid about hotel stays.
