Rate Plus 1000 or 2000 Wyndham reward points
 

When booking a room at one of these rates I was wondering how many points you get for the night..

Say the room is $50. IF one night would you get a total of 2000 points. 500 go get em points plus rate plus 1000 bonus points or would you get 1500 points for a one night stay.

Or for 2 nights you get 1000 points plus 2000 bonus points for 3000 points.. No go get em award with two nights obviously..

I was just wondering if it would be more to my benefit to book only one room at the regular rate or a discounted rate to get 1000 points instead of paying the regular rate just to get an additional 500 points. Any thoughts?

While I have no recent-enough experience, the 1000 bonus sounds totally separate from what you earn normally. And normally earn a minimum of 1000 points on a stay. So I don't see why you wouldn't earn 2000 points with a $50 one-night stay on a 1000 bonus points rate.

The reason, though, that I don't have recent-enough expereience is that there's too big a gap between the discount rates i qualify for and the 1000 bonus point rates lately (at the hotels I stay at), and it just doesn't seem worth abandoning the discount I qualify for and then paying even more above that to get just 1000 bonus points. (But that math can very from hotel to hotel, and depend on the discount rates you qualify for.)

A couple years ago, one of the hotels I was staying at periodically had just a few bucks difference between AAA/AARP discount rate and 1000 bonus points rate. In that case, it made sense. Now the same hotel has a $20ish difference, and it doesn't make sense to me.

There has been a bit of separation lately in those rates. I am regularly seeing $10 difference in cheapest rate versus rate with bonus points. I value the points at about $10 per thousand since few properties Wyndham properties are north of $150 per night. I have used the points in a $300 per night property which gave me a bit of value.

according to the booking it appears you don not get 2000 points for the stay just 1500... so it is probably best to use the discount and forego the extra points...
